Don't waste your time & money on a single stage press for loading pistol rounds. After a while it will become a chore. Buy once, cry once. I started with a single stage press I already had & soon got sick of it. I now use it for de-priming before the brass goes in the tumbler. Learning on a progressive press isn't difficult just start loading one round at a time & going through all the stages before starting on the next. Dillion gear is very good & their no BS warrantee is great. I have a Squaredeal, which is a 4 stage progressive press. takes about 20minutes for 100 rounds taking my time. The auto thrower is very accurate. I check weigh at the start & a few loads during the process of loading 100 rounds & have only found one load out due to a spider in the expander. I now check before starting each session. As long as you keep powder in the hopper you will not get squibs. It's more likely to get one manual filling the cases. The Square deal takes proprietary dies & can't do bottle neck cases but for straight wall pistol it's excellent. Dillion gear is a little more expensive, but I picked mine up second hand for a good price with extra die sets.
There is a good Hornady progressive press & the Lee gear works, but does take a little more setting up.
