Thread: Which powder 300 saum rl17 or rl26

Anyone have quick load etc ?

Trying to work out what powder i should try, or maybe use both and physically see which is better ?

Running 178gr eldx, I cant fit upto 67gr of rl17 in the case with the projectile seated. Barrel is 18 inch carbon.

I know that load is way too high, but im just stating what i can fit.

apparently 61.5gr of rl17 will get me 2828fps and 68.5 rl26 will get me 2905fps. Both apparently just below absolute max ( just using as a direction of which powder to go for ) , case would be about 80% full on rl17 at that charge and the rl26 would be 100%.

Id go rl17 if those numbers add up man 7 grns less animals wont notice the 70fps

I use RL 17 and 168 NBT. 3100 fps and 20" barrel. Its fantastic.

This is one of the most under rated hunting cartridges.

That’s almost 300 wM performance so it’s up there.

I also use N550 which is good too for 3k with same bullet. R17 gives about 60 fps advantage for same accuracy.

looks like il be focusing on the rl17 then. less powder burnt too i guess is a bonus in todays powder shortage
