Hi all..
New to the reloading world..
Would like to develop a load for my 270.. was thinking of trying the EDL X projectiles..
The question I have is what powders are people using for this projectile?

ADI 2213sc
do a search of the forum there's a few threads about 145eldx in 270 win, its a bloody devastating round if you can get a load to suit your rifle
Using ar2213sc with 140 Berger and 129 Barnes, great accuracy with both.
if you are as your name suggests a once a year deer shooter....consider a 150 grn partition load......not saying the eldx isnt going to be good...just that the partitions are AWESOME. 2213sc is good powder to use. last deer fell to a 110grn tsx the 3 before that were 140grn plain old boring 140grn hornady interlocts.... if you hit em in the front wheels they go not far and the engine room is stuffed at same time.
the 270 gang will be here shortly I'm sure...😉
Mooseman had a great load that he shared. Should come up in thread search.
Get some 2209 or some 2213sc
Shoot stuff far away = 150 VLD or 145 ELDx
Shoot stuff 0-400 = 150 Partition or 150 Norma Oryx
130s are dumb
140gn Accubond with 60gn Ar2213 were a good combo for me.
AMEN to that.....once upon a time people bought a reloading manual....made of paper ,with real pages you could read.... some of us still have 3 or 4 of them in the shelf LOL.
its no good me giving you MY pet loads ....if your rifle is like my buddies and you feed it one of my rifles loads, you may well be picking up your teeth from the ground after touching one off. want a starting point???? look in a manual...cant find 145grn??? look at 140 and 150 and split it in half.... job done. start low and work your way up.
Black watch currently have boxes of 100 150gr Norma Oryx for 60 pesos, that's bloody good value for a premium projectile. I have been using them in my wsm after I realised you dont need wizz bang plastic tipped heat seeking missiles to shoot deer and they are devastating as a 0-600 load in the wsm, would go good as a 0-400yd load in the winny
Shearer...that load looks waay hot 60 GRNS behind a 130 is hot enough if you can fit it in the case..... which just prooves whats already been said......
Shit, that's like $4.69NZD, almost worth getting a 270!...:P
@1 deer a year like we talked about I reckon hybrid 100v or superperformance could be worth a look, else like everyone says 2213sc is a well proven performer. Welcome to try a bit of my hybrid 100v and see how it goes.
Sorry. I must have forgotten to put the disclaimer in.
"Use this load in your own rifle, without working up to it, at your own risk. Shearer takes no responsibility for injury or death caused by a failure to do so".
As I said 140gn Accubonds with 60gn of Ar2213 were a good combo for me.
Its like asking "Do bears shit in the woods"
Simple answer is 2209,2213,superformance,n560,748 and probably a dozen others.
Get yourself a reloading manual - Nick Harvey's is great reference material, and read it cover to cover. There are a lot of pitfalls in reloading, and you need a basic understanding of what they are and how to recognise them, but the key message is to start with minimum loads and work up.
Its a bloody awesome pastime but after 30 years Im still learning.
@1 deer a year would you like some projectiles to get you going?
130 grain Hornady SST maybe 30 of them
150 grain SST ... maybe 25 or 30 of them
The SST isnt really much behind the ELD's
Free to get you started sorry cant ship you any powder.
Use the KISS principle for starters try and stay with one powder till you know your way around it.
johnd is being very generous SSTs are a bloody good start you would be a mug to turn that offer down and as said get a reloading manual. I would also recommend Nick Harvey,s manual as its written for NZ and AUS reloaders. Another good place for anything you wanted to know about the 270 or any other caliber for that matter is www.ballistic studies.com/knowedge base. powder wise 2213 or 2209 work well in the 270 and are always available in NZ. well thats about my $1.50s worth good luck and hopefully happy hunting:)
Could also go for a 150gr, duel load of 150gr sierra game king for close shots and same load on a berger vld or nosler lrab for far shots.
I shoot all 3 those bullets with the same load while im deciding between the berger and lrab still.
I use AR2217, norma brass, and i get a 150 going 3010fps roughly out of my standard t3x.
But you need to know what you doing to get it going that fast as its way outside book parameters.
The 150 game king so far has been working well on sub 100m shots for me, very little meat damage.
Have yet to kill with the lrab or berger, maybe this weekend.

pet fallow load out to 400
130gr projectiles and AR2209 is always a good combo if you are looking for an all purpose <350m load. (RL22 is another good .270 cal powder, but harder to find at times)
I have had flawless results for 10+ years using 130gr Accubonds.
Another solid performer is the 130gr Gamekings. Sierra's new Tipped Gamekings look the biz and could be work a look too.
If you want to stick with the 140-150gr weight range, then AR2213sc is the way to go, as others have recommended.
What you want to do is go buy some 308 brass and projectiles etc.
Then grab a nice 308. Then sell the 270.
You’ll be away laughing in no time!
Thank you for such a generous offer.. will PM you shortly.
Thank you guys for all your advice.. Very much appreciate.
and a big thank you to @johnd for the generous offer of projectiles.
I also have some 130sst's that I can send your way. 30 odd iirc.
Win 760 works very well in this cartridge as well. Belmont sells it pretty cheap.
760 was all I used for years...... IF you dont own or use a chronicgraph......a lot of loads will be very usable for hunting and do the job very well.
That's all my mate used in his A bolt for years. Shot honest clever leaf groups with 130gr SST. He buys factory now though.
Cheap nasty but deadly
+1 on the W760, very cheap from Belmont in Wanganui. Load for my mate's 270 and it goes good with 130 grain hornady interlocks, yet to try any other projectiles in it.Attachment 117402k
That's 3 shots at 100m, red dot is an inch
@Ryan_Songhurst just got some of the 150gr oryx.
any suggested loads for the 270win?
I use 55 gns of WW760 behind a 130 for just under 3100 fps.
58.5 of 2213SC behind a 150. Long throated, long magazine rifles like the R700s I use, allow for and need a bit higher loads for top speeds.
