    Reloading for 9mm pistol

    Hello there everyone,
Brand new pistol shooter and looking into reload for a 9mm. Projectile of choice is 124-125gn and powder of choice in between ADI AP70 and AP100… leaning towards the AP100, regards primers i don't know anything to start of but heard the winchester is ok for small pistol…
Please can i have some help here?! the powder is my choice as i think it won't be so difficult to find and price wise…

    cheers.

    Send @nznoddy a pm.

He will be the best start for components.
AP 70N or 50 goes well in 9mm.
Maybe a bit dirty if anything.

Tight group is really good and I have just sourced a cheap 8lb tub😆
I have a heap of AS30N if you get a 124 gr load for that I will flick ya some. I only used it for fireforming Ackley brass.

If your going to shoot ipsc then you will need to reach power factor for what ever you intend.

If your just plinking then load as light as possible to save on powder.

I wouldn't get hung up on primers. Win or cci all good.

Belmont action pistol is another good powder for 9mm and at $55 for 500gms it good value for money too.

Combine that with Rusa's 124gr round nose projectiles and you'll be a A grade shooter in no time.

I currently use federal SP primers mostly because I have lots of them

Buy bulk components for pistol. You might not think you shoot much when you start but your component stocks will go down faster than a fat kid on a seesaw.
Use small rifle primers as it saves on buying separate lots if ya shoot an AR or the like.

I have few of small rifle primers I just don't have experience in "Pisto" reloading, saying so I must take it easy(I prefer). I will make more enquires about that.
Thank you a lot for the heads up...

    Cheers

Winchester pistol primers and buy them by the 5000 or 10 000, do a search and talk to your local club members on what deals they get. If its a small club look to meet people from a larger club to do bulk buys for all your reloading components be it primers brass projo's or powder.

Winchester 231 was always good to me, I think it was about 3.5 grains to hit minor pf with a 50 fps buffer running 124's I did run major for a bit but thats another story and a whole different powder / bullet combo

Feds tend to be a bit thin but good for revolver's if you run a light trigger.
My info is probably out of date by 20 years so take it for what its worth.

Small rifle primers may be too hard for your particular pistol but be willing to experiment, they differentiate between pistol and rifle for several reasons.... otherwise they would just be called primers

If you are thinking of shifting house.... watch how many projectiles you stock up on. A few thousand is rather heavy yes I know, I just need to shoot more.....

My mix is 124gn rusa flat nose, small rifle primers (have used federal, fiochi, cci - all ok), vit N320 powder, and a real mix of brass - what ever factory I brought for a start and some once fired I brought for a rather good price.
    And a dilion 650

Did try some as30 and 50, but way to dirt for my slack cleaning program. With the n320, after about 1500 -2000, I give may clean. After about 150 with as, it looks like you've dumped it in wet graphite powder. And I found it didn't meter well, but also didn't try to sort that as I swapped back pretty quick.
I will be looking at adi powders when I get low on vit though (but is a bit pricey And sometimes difficult to get)

You'll find that ap100 will be too slow for 9mm. You'll need a lot of powder to get any decent velocity and it probably won't all burn up. I used to use it in 38 super to make major but wouldn't bother in a 9mm when you can use half as much powder by going to a faster burn rate like ap50/70 to make minor.

Try to weka some powder and try some loads before you commit to buying a bulk amount. I used ap50 in my cz but most other club members were using ap70, so I bought 4kg and hated how to shot for the same power factor. So went back to ap50, now I use Belmont action pistol, I was buying it for $40/lb and winchester SP primers for $40/1000 but have lost my wholesaler now.
Only downside is the cheaper powders are dirtier, but brake clean is cheap

If you plan on using a progressive press with a bulk-feed priming system then avoid using Federal primers. They are quite soft and have been known to cause explosions in bulk-feed systems. Winchester and CCI are fine.

Can you get vihtavuori powder in New Zealand?

14 grns of N310 behind a 125 grn K&N Bullet is a one hole shooter in my P210.

Its cleaner and a Bleached Angel too.

    14gr in a 9mm , I wouldn't recommend a beginner playing with a fast powder like N310 in 9mm.
This is why you shouldn't copy loads you read on the internet, I had a mate ring up last week working a 223 load and he read that a guy was using 34gr of benchmark with a 55gr, I told him to try fit 34gr in a 223 case and call me back

Yeah we can get it but it is costly.

I use vit 320N in my .40 but no where near 14 grns. 😆 (suspect a typo and you mean 4?)
I reach power factor with 4.5grs and a 210gr cast bullet.
