1 in 13 or 1 in 12.6 seems to be the "norm" for palma type shooting with a 155gr bullet.

I didn't exactly want the slower twist rate. There was a mix up somehow between what I asked for and what was built. I had originally assumed that I was getting a Krieger barrel with 1 in 10 twist with the intention of shooting 168gr pills only but I ended up with the tru-flite 1 in 13 barrel. It doesn't worry me to much because I know I will get it shooting eventually. I found something quite bad a few days ago after talking to someone about tilt scales. I am still rather green when it comes to reloading but am learning quickly, I found that my tilt scales had a piece of ducttape stuck on one end to make them level properly(I bought the scales second hand) this actually meant that the scales stuck quite badly around level. I bought some digital scales and weighed my loads and the results were a little shocking, up to 2.6gr light sometimes. I have also seated bullets right off the lands as I have a 223 that likes bullets way off the lands. I went back to 2.15 from 2.22(comparator measurements) The result after these two changes meant my first test load of 43gr 2206h and the new seating depth was 0.75 inches but it put the second and third through the same hole. I am going to retest the exact same load but with 5 rounds instead of 3 because I suspect the first one may have just been due to a cold and unfowled barrel.
I am still looking for some load ideas for 150gr TTSX and accubonds if anyone has any loads for these.

The 144gr (? Dyer) works fine in my 1:14 barrel from 300yds to 700 yds

Only start getting issues around 800 and above, as they get closer to transsonic speed.

Yes for FTR....Ive seen a few articles saying the 168 is better...so its something I'd try....but even with 155gr he should be 1/2moa

    How is the action bedded,
How solid is the action with that barrel hanging out the end.
Was the barrel sent to you from true flight then fitted by hardy ?

If that gun ante shooting 1/2 at 100 with a factory load take it back to who ever sold it to you

Maybe they all using "old" TF UM barrels

Between CG milleniums (? mostly MAB barrels) and the Barnard action TF UM combo, just saying I don't see much else.

Mine is an early Sportco, pre-MAB, I shoot in vintage class

Actually Im getting the impression trueflite's quality can suck. Enough so that now I'd go kreiger I think.

I think our Milleniums run TFs or Kreigers.

Proudkiwi, I'm curious, what calibers and for all 6 did you use same gunsmith to chamber and fit ?

They were 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm (x2) and .338. I was wrong in my earlier post, one of the lemons was a Shillen.

Range of smiths - Hardy, gunworks, NZ Hunter (I think?) and even Grant (trueflight)

It wasn't just accuracy, they all fouled like bitches, and they all seemed to spot rust WAY faster than any of my other SS barrels.

    In short they suck balls.

I know fuck all about barrels apart from the basics but this is the first ive heard of TF barrels being gigantic pieces of shit. Makes me think that your awful luck may have a considerable 'outside' factor that isnt being addressed properly. Dunno.

    My 2 cents

Yet never had a problem with a single Bartlein or krieger barrel, hmmmmm.

Not to mention not having to put up with Grants bullshit attitude to customer service, even though both manufacturers are on the other side of the world.

How many custom barrels have you had?

I have had 2 x 6.5 UM barrels from TF that were complete shit and I know of 3 others in 6mm and 7 mm.
I had no recourse and was told to fire more money down the barrel to remedy. For that, they will never get another penny off me.

In saying that, the 2 most accurate barrels I ever had, were TF. Still have one in .223.
They will have lemons to be sure, just like any other barrel manufactuer. It was just the poor customer service that put me off them for good.

None. As I said I know stuff at about em. Was just prompting that perhaps something has been overlooked? Extremely bad luck for you in any case. Good luck with your rigs for the future. As for me im happy ploddin away hunting for meat in the bush with my Ruger. It will kill stuff when i pull the trigger. Later.
