    Greetings all,
It has taken a little time to get around to some handloading. The rifle is a Martini action fitted with a take out 7.62 barrel and chambered in .30 US aka .30-40 Krag. As the action was made in 1881 the decision was made to keep the loads soft or a max of 35,000 CUP. The aim was to sort some loads that I could use in 300 yard F Class shooting. Pressure tested load data is very rare and some contradictory. Fortunately some data for AR2208 appeared on the Hodgdon site recently and previous experience with soft loads the .308 could be used.
So the rifle as mentioned is a Martini action with a 610mm 7.62 calibre Sportco barrel with a 1 in 12 twist. Scope is a VX1 3-9.
Cases are WW Super .303 cases reformed to .30-40. There are 40 .30-40 cases on hand will be used for final loads. Projectiles are Hornady 150 grain soft points seated to78.7mm overall.
Test charges are 40 grains of AR2208 with a listed velocity of 2,567 fps and 38 grains of AR2206H for am estimated velocity of 2,385 fps. This is in line with a chronographed velocity of 2,350 fps in the 22 inch barrel of my .308.
Will let you know how they shoot.
    Regards Grandpamac.

That sounds interesting! As competitive shooters we get so wrapped up in es/sd tiny groups at 1000 meters that we forget to have fun with some of our other rifles.

    Greetings,
Getting on a bit and only just started F-class I have made my peace with participating rather than competing. The handloading side of it is a big part of the attraction. Hence the use of a 142 year old rifle with a pretty heavy trigger. There is a .308 barrelled P14 in the cupboard and an Omark. Hmmm.

    PS Plus two .303 rifles.

Prepping 303B Brass for my Ugly Duckling Shorty SMLE III with the Bubba Fibre Optic sight. Using my Lee Whackamole using brass I did my weekend load test in, loaded back in early 2020. Chucked a split neck out, no surprise there even tho all the brass was annealed. 1940s were a long time ago. Here's one I have not had yet but watch for. Usually I get neck and sometimes body splits. Here is an imminent head separation. Guess it doesn't get a lot closer than this. Name: 20240225_204827.jpg

So out again last nite and this redskin was a few yrds left of where I had shot the other one. They are hard to see in the long grass and he was in a wee hollow, this is by the tarn, I wonder if the yabbies(fresh water crayfish go walkabout at nite looking for insects and grass) because I've seen a lot of foxes there now fossiking about. These little 40 gr vmax, minus the red knob, just do not open up at the speed I'm getting in my 22 hornet, 2150 fps. You can see the dark spot where I'd hit him in the chest. Anyhow he took off like a bat out of hell and made it to the bushedge before running out of steam.
