Found this photo of of the first big bull I shot well over 30 years ago, and pretty certain it was one of the first animals I took with reloads I done unassisted.. an old Santa Barbara 7x57

Red hind shot on day 1 of lock down level 2 day at about 8am. Shot at 240y. Dropped so quickly I couldn't find her initially

Carneys, it would of been the last weekend of March 1991.
A spot I wish I'd gone to a bit more.

Yeah, has been a good bit time spent mate.. A lot more to come too, albeit slower.

This must of been the year before, I'd sold that rifle to buy my 25.06 before we went down there.

    Yes, we bloody should.

Yeah they were a bit harder to find I guess but I can still remember the buzz and excitement of it in the early days for me. I believe it made me appreciate it that little bit more.

My first deer with hand loads weren’t that exciting - a fallow hind with 168vlds. However my first shot fired with hand loads was a different thing! I was by myself and was absolutely terrified, I had gloves on and I looked away😂 But it all ended well👍
