I don't understand this kind of feedback as it directly contradicts my experience. I shoot hares regularly with a .22LR subsonic hollow point and anything forward of the diaphragm kills them pretty much instantly. I'm pretty sure slow deaths are just a function of shot placement, same for most other animals.

Same for me. Never had an issue killing hares with 22.

I think people are just making poor shots on hares and blaming the cartridge.

I have had issues with little to no expension from some brands hollow points, but with a properly performing projectile I've never had an issue.

Hares don't seem to die like rabbits. Rabbits almost die of fright where hares cling to life. Possibly because they have different tissue

Winchester Subsonic 42gr out of my short barrel Marlin 7000T.
The 42gr subs have a very large hollow point and hit with an audibly louder impact than CCI 40gr subs

It smokes them, it's a great round, inherent accuracy encourages shot placement too

Yes the 17HMR is a great round for hares. The 17gr hornady vmax goes good on them. Wind can be a problem on the longer shots though.

I've never had issues killing hares with a 22, assuming a semi decent shot. I used a very short barrel Grendel for a while though (in case i came across deer/pigs) and had quite a few just run off after what should have been easy shots with a very accurate rifle. 90tnt projectiles, must have just been bugger all expansion at low velocities I guess. Use a longer barrel . 223 now and all is well

    The new 40gr stuff, agreed.

The 42gr Max, I'm a fan and the subs cycle my Marlin 7000T reliably unlike CCI subs
