Quick and clean. I can see the Dundee family giving that a go if they do not already know about it.
yeah i'm gunna give it a whirl next time, most likey fail and end up with guts in my gum boots
... Seriously?
It takes me forever to gut rabbits... He just gives them a squeeze.
I'm going to give it a go. I wonder if the crunch noise is ribs or bone or what. I imagine you have to be pretty forceful. I'm not sure it'd work for big hares.
Thanks for sharing the vid.
Awesome. I couldn't stop laughing when he was pushing the guts out the ass! Bit of a design flaw! I wonder if canibals do that to humans ;)
Saw that a while back, yet to try it tho. Presume heart and lungs still in there?
He wasn't pulling out the lungs after skinning them so I assume its all coming out.
Amazing, damned quick method. Have to try it.
Just watched it, and wife happened to ask what are you watching, so I showed her, look on face was priceless! But will have to try it out as looks super easy
well he says on big buck rabbits the process can prove difficult so might be best to try on a young rabbit, find that with skinning older animals tend to be harder to skin then young ones. as for lungs and heart they must be still in there as there in a separate cavity and i cant see them when he holds the guts up.
Anyone tried this yet ?
Wonder if it works on hares
Tim
Yeah saw this a while ago and I do it all the time. I still have a bit of a problem when the guts run down the inside of the leg and get stuck. Have to hold the leg right. Helps if you leave them a while and they have a bit of gas in them. only had heart and lungs come out once, i think when a shot ruptured the membrane. Not really a problem when processing them with a cleaver like he is. They don't contaminate the meat.
Haven't tried a hare but possums are more effort than they're worth.
Tried it last night on a young rabbit. Both the popping and skinning worked a treat. So long as I dont fill my red bands with guts any time soon it looks like my new method, it sure was clean.
Have seen that before yet too try it:thumbsup:
It just gets a bit messy on the hands if you shoulder shoot them. I find if I pick the big ones up after I've finished shooting for the night/morning they've bloated a bit and it helps get the leverage required to pop them. Some have been shoulder shot. The little ones are easy. Haven't 100% worked out what makes some of them hard to gut this way yet but atm it looks like the big males are the hardest.
Age
Yea youd be tough to gut Rushy.:D
Think the easiest way would be going in through ya bum. Start with a closed fist then try clapping.:omg:
Damn intersting, thanks for sharing will definitely give it a try :)
Geez hope you're talking about gutting rabbits, not sticking things in orifices.
Possibly age as well but the male ones are definitely a lot harder to pop. I reckon it is something to do with their male bits reinforcing the bit of gut wall that usually pops open.
Had another heart and lung come out but it is a very very small percentage of them. Kidneys sometimes get left behind as well. You need to run your hand over it again to push them out.
I haven't shot any bunnies recently, but I have shot plenty of hares.
I tried this a couple of times. Epic fail. Couldn't make it happen (but I was trying straight after shooting as I normally gut them straight away. Is that not neccisary?) so I reverted to just using the knife.
Hares are a lot bigger and tougher than rabbits so maybe it wont work, or you just need more force. Dunno
with enough force it will work.
i was telling this old guy about this method. he understood what i was saying, as his son is a police man and he went to an accident where a cyclist was holding onto a logging truck getting a free ride. the cyclist went under the truck. and the exact same "rabbit" thing happened to him.
