    Federal black bulk 17 hmr

Hey all, just a general enquiry about the quality of the federal black bulk 17 grain (vmax?) ammo. Is it crap?

I understand every gun is different but found my cz 452 killed stuff dead with the federal 17 grain polymer tipped ammo (vmax?) in the 50 pack, just wondered if anyone had used the bulk pack and if it was of similar performance? Hope that makes sense Name: IMG_20200102_201302.jpg

Curious myself. It’s reasonably well priced in the bulk form I believe. I shoot it enough to justify it...

I may end up taking the gamble, this 452 seems to like everything I put down it

I haven't even seen it on the shelves yet, the other Federal premium stuff shoots well so this would be great if it shoots well from a price point of view .

I think you will find that it is the exact same ammo, just less packaging therefore less cost. The cost of packaging is horrific.

A little bird told me all that the bulk of rimfire ammo is manufactured by CCI, federal incl. So can't be bad at all.

After the hmr splitting cases saga, Hornady and Winchester started their own 17hmr production. Up till then CCi was the only 1 producing it.

As for the rest of rimfire ammo, there are plenty of others making it.

Yep, I’m seeing more brands coming out.
Haven’t tried federal yet and doubt i will anytime soon until I got through my Hornady stock.

Ah hang I misread the product description, the bulk pack is a 17 grain hollow point. Still likely made by CCI but to a different spec to CCI 17 grain hollow point....it is cheap though

Yup I've just gotten through a heap of old Hornady ammo that came with the cz and probably 2 out of 5 cases split.

My mate bought a box of the bulk federal 17gn hp and I tried them through my marlin.
They shot as well as my 17gn hornandy vmax, not only that but same p.o.i, I was bloody amazed.
I may buy a box once I get through all my vmax stock pile, dunno if there's much difference in how they perform on small game ?

It's actually cheaper to buy hornandy 17gr vmax from Gunworks

    https://www.gunworks.co.nz/shop/item/hornady-17cal-copy

250 rounds of vmax from Gunworks works out at $114
Federal 17gr hp ftom guncity 250 round box comes to $119
Guess I'll stick to my vmax

Ah fair enough, gunworks is a bit far from me in the North
