Don't use 12V batteries and lights any more? Use an LED torch with LiPo batteries, not as heavy and better range. If the set up is likely to be used for rabbits as well then how/when you shoot those will more dictate your scope choice.

Sorry guys, we obviously dont have possums over here and I didnt realise you shot them that close! As had been said you must be able to use just about any half decent scope at that range? We dont get to shoot much under 100yds at night and using minimum light so the quality of the glass can make a real difference. I'll keep my ore out now.

    Vortex Diamondback Rimfire 2-7x35.
    HUGE amounts of light.
Easily the best spotlighting scope I've come across. $230NZ landed from Optics Planet.

Seriously bright at night. I've not seen anything like it.
Chunky crosshairs for spotlight work too.

I wouldn't say they are the future though, we've been using them for over three years.

Yeah they're not new but they're the way to go. Try hawker hunter if you're in canterbury or they'll ship if not. NZ company, they have a torch with 300m throw. google and check it out.

lith ion is for those people still persisting with using led acid batteries and standard AA for LED Lensers

Think I'll need to show you some torches when we catch up. Was lighting up trees at over 500m last night.

You are absolutely right, it wasn't a LED Lenser of any description. My range estimation is a bit out though I must confess. I have checked on google earth and it was in fact over 800m. This was with both a Mactoch SN and also with the humble little UF-501B. You can find details in the gear section. Unfortunately the Maxtochs are sold out and we are awaiting the release of the new models.
