    2016 roar dates west coast?

    Hi all
A very board question I know but I'm looking to book a week off work to head to the west coast for the roar. I have never hunted during the roar but this year I'd like to give it a good nudge.
    Thanks for any advice

    Hi there,
Where I live in lower Buller we have had a very good growing season, I have seen a lot of animals all looking very fat so I would think the girls will cycle well. Generally for me the last week in March produces roar opportunities (the bigger stags) however the animals round here are not very vocal. Obviously this depends on the weather leading up to this time, for the last few years the frosts/cold mornings have not arrived until much later in the year, they may be quiet but good stalking is to be had (if you are allergic to wasp stings bring adrenalin, they are nutting off also). It would seem as if the roar is a little later further down south but someone may be able to correct me on that.Cheers.

Back country deer tend to go earlier than the front country stuff.
If you are hunting the coast with the 10th April in the middle of your trip, you should get onto animals.
People everywhere tho. I used to be able to go just about anywhere without running into anyone, now you need to take a ticket and wait in line😆

Never too soon for a roar thread!
Easter is early next year 25-28th March. You can usually expect them to be roaring by Easter, but is this too early? Do you guys think they will kick off then or could they wait for the next moon phase ?[my understanding is that the moon phase influences when the hinds are cycling and thus when the Roar starts]. There are other influences, certainly the temperature is still likely to be pretty mild rather than the ideal cool nights/frosts. So maybe a week or two after Easter would be better.
    Whatdoya reckon?

Have a great New Year all!
