Bit of advice. There are some flats that are only around 2k downstream from where you are likely to camp. It is on another block but if no one is there you might want to have a look. Don't bother trying to reach them as I have travelled both ways up and down the river and took me nearly 4 hrs each way. Game trails are all buggered from slips and earthquakes
Don't light a fire or you will scent up the whole block and push the animals high.

If you are trying to get anywhere climb high first.
When last in there we seen good sign of a mature stag but he climbed up to the tops everyday. Seen his hinds but never got a good look at him.
Seen a few chams with one good one but he gave me the slip when I tried to climb up to him.

You will see what I mean when you get in there but unless you are experienced in that type of country don't be surprise if you don't even see an animal.

I would hit it in the helicopter at least once a fortnight and shot bugger all out of the whole valley. Did shoot a 113 kg spiker in there once. Was a massive drop in 2007 that really smashed the numbers and they rain the 1080 every couple of years.

Not trying to rain on your parade just letting you know what you could be in for

Cheers for the advice. Have read that the genetics are pretty good if we do find a stag wandering around. So far our plan is to camp on the tops if weather permits
Hopefully the chams will provide something to hunt if we find no deer sign around. It will be the first time we have hunted that sort of country but we are looking forward to it.

It is one of the few blocks I would apply for and be stoked if successful. I have hunted it and the lower ones a fair bit. But I am only after a trophy. Not many deer in there.
But likely to be good ones.

Last time I had it a 300+DS stag was shot on the flats I mentioned below the top block the very next season. I seen reasonable sign but nothing to make me want go thru the misery of reaching those flats again.

Maybe try and show some restraint If you see an 8 or a 10 with all its bottom tines. A few stags from that valley have made Banwells books.

Yea we will be pretty selective with what we take. Half the time it’s bloody awesome seeing something with a lot of potential. Especially if there’s not that many animals floating around.
