Yards with dogs behind and copped a 52grn Speer in boiler room.stayed on feet for maybe twenty seconds then got all wobbly n diedName: IMG_20240405_134646.jpg

Interesting the difference between these 2 projectiles. On the left, 80gr eldm, on the right, 73gr eldm. Both recovered from sika at ranges around 300m. These results have been repeatable. It's interesting that the 73gr is much more prone to disintegration but the 80gr so far, have much higher weight retention.

Lower impact velocity = less deformation, and more to deform in the first place?

Velocity is not all that different especially when BC taken into account. 80gr doing a tad over 2700fps, 73gr 2850fps. Impact Velocity is very close. Maybe with the extra 7gr of mass but, that equates to 9% which could be considered significant, especially in these small bore cartridges.

I've found the 80s to produce nice mushrooms. Haven't shot a 73. Would try them if I could find the factory match ammo loaded with them, to save handloading faff

Reference photo, is my experience with the 73/75gr ELDM's. Quite a few deer with them, very reliable and emphatic despite the lack of retained weight. The 80s do give me confidence on unforgiving angles and larger deer, so I will stuck with them.

7 days chasing sika next week, have 2 good loads, 65 gameking and 77tmks, up close at bush ranges is one projectile more effective than the other?

I'd use the game kings up close because they are cheaper lol. I have killed 4 deer with them. A couple of reds at 240m kept going for a bit before dying, TMK is probably better suited for that kind of thing. A good size red spiker at 150 died on the spot with a neck shot. They produce good wounding on goats I have inspected from up close to 120m. Have shot a few at 300 as well but didn't go over to look.

Velocity will be interesting in a Sako with its long throat and spacious magazine
