now if my memory is correct (sometimes its not) the nosler ballistic tip was one of if not the first projectile to get better B.C. by adding tip..and before that..pretty much all the precision ammunition would have been hollow point??? the theory being the small pocket of air in HP was more uniform than mashed lead tip???? if that is ideed the case, maybe melt out that plastic tip completely and have a 78???grain hollow point that is now slightly shorter ???? maybe better??? maybe not...but if you have a box of them and struggle to get them to group all it will cost you is a little time and half dozen round to prove it one way or the other...
An offset tip on a spear, certainly, and arrow, maybe. But I'd bet you a cold one that simple aerodynamics are not representative of the trajectory of supersonic bullets spinning at >200,000 rpm, where an offset tip essentially becomes a solid object with slightly larger frontal diameter than a centered tip.

My understanding from one of the Hornady Podcasts with balistician Jayden Quinlan (maybe Episode #29) is that off-center bullets don't affect accuracy until the bullets go transonic because there is effectively an "air cushion" around the front of the bullet and the spin rate negates any off-center mass. The off-center tip might decrease BC a bit due to increased frontal area, but that would just reduce effective range, not accuracy. Picture the BC reduction of a blunt-tip soft point vs a pointy tip hunting bullet.

My practical take-away is that any accuracy issues from off-center tips shot within normal hunting ranges would be the result of the handload components, rather than offset bullet tips.

Yeah it's worth a thought MD, I checked some old targets and I have tried Hunter_Nick's load already except the distance from the lands but it grouped terrible. I do have plenty of projectiles that do work so I may not bother with them at all.

    Thanks for the suggestion mate

If it shoots the 77TMK well I wouldn't bother trying to modify the 80 ELDM by removing the tip or whatever

Had my T3 barrel long throated just so I can run AR2208 and it shoots 73gr, 75gr, 80gr eld-m and Hornady 75gr hpbt easy sub MOA sometimes .25 MOA if I’ve got my act together. Tried 3 rounds of Sierra 77gr but needed more for a decent load development, very expensive projectiles compared to the Hornady pills. I do like 80 grainers better deer killing wise and BC at distance.

Yeah that was the plan behind extending the throat on mine, being able to run 2208. Still got a 1/2kg of 2206h to burn through first!

I still get better velocity with 2206 than 2208 but that powder space with the long throat is key to the tikkas shooting the 80s in my opinion mines a laser beam with the 80

I can tell that you are hovering towards casting the little 52 grn Barnes to one side and going for proper big bullets .

Terrible roar. Haven't shot a real stag. Have passed on scrubby 8 point reds and smaller Fallow. Have only seen one decent Fallow.

Saw the good buck last night but he gave me the slip.

This chap went home for the charity though. 250 yds back on. Tried to neck shoot him. Bit low - bullet creased his back bone twice and then entered through the withers and exited out his front. Dropped on the spot. 74 Targex. Almost out of them and then it will be time for a change.

I’ve got 200 each of 80grn Targex and 77TMK so probably the 80 Targex cos they shoot in 2 rifles with one just a bit shorter OAL. Load a pile then shorten some back.
