This big guy was a couple weeks back and a really solid beast. The shock turned him into a rocking horse. Stiff as a board for a few secs before ground bound.

This little fella was a bang flop. Needed meat as first stag had turned in the rain and we were in for 2 wks.

This one snuck up while we wear butchering and hit our scent. Started barking so I ran up the hill 100m and snapped him on the escape. Gave him one at 80m through the bush.

Considering these are being shot with a 243 out of a 14.5" barrel(which is a terrible length for the calibre), I don't think there's any debate about it's use on deer.
Good post cowboy. 243 def gets the job done. What projectiles are you running for your bush hunts in your trusty okd blr

Mainly factory superformance ssts. I've put many kinds through it tho. Most have done the job. I just like the full on destruction of the sst. One of the stags this roar had had bits of bone and the odd fragment of bullet put a 50c sized hole through the heart, destroy the lungs, bust the base of the neck and damaged the paunch. Thats a wide field of damage.

I shot a deer at 632m with the 108gr Berger EH out of the 6GT the other week. It worked. 2744fps MV. About 1766FPS impact.

Mine was two days later same spot exactly but 312m shot as cattle would have ruined the stalk. I waited for a back of headshot to avoid any face shots. I hit it at atlas joint on left edge of spine, lots of blood. Obviously sacked it.

Yeah of course its empty. Deceiving photo though as the rifle is actually pointing well behind her. I dont open the bolt for photos as ive had a rifle tip over and get mud in the action/chamber once before.
She shoots as i tell her and doesn't second guess the instructions.

My son with his second deer ever and first with his lefthand Savage in 243 (bought from one of the good buggers on the forum). Shooting fiocchi 95gr SST. I've not choreographed it, but will be pretty slow - barrel about 19" and box speed pretty slow to. Hit a bit high through the spine and it needed a second shot. But exited at a bit over 100m.Name: 20250920_072328.jpg

Took my new t3x 243 1:8 twist for a walk in the southern ruahines today, managed to shoot this runty yearling. Just using sako factory 100gr atm but very pleasant to shoot compared to my 7rm which on a close range shot like this can be a bit overkill!!

Just thought i would add to my earlier post that my new t3x shoots the Sako factory 100gr ammo well under an inch at 100mtrs, and a reload using the 90gr speer and IMR 4350 put 3 shots in the same hole , i was impressed that's for sure!! and certainly looks promising. Scope is a Bushnell Engage 3-9x40 which i got cheap but is actually a half decent scope, nice wide fov and crisp bright glass to look through. One thing that lets it down is the horrible Deploy MOA retical it came with, very confusing with one moa hash marks that are very close together , knew i wouldn't like it but it'll do till i can replace it with a dial up scope when finances permit.
