    270win on Wapiti

What factory ammunition do people recommend for shooting Fiordland Wapiti bull with a .270 caliber rifle?
    Cheers

Heavy pills at a guess. I'm taking my 300saum down last period, 178gr @ 3000fps should do it

An accubond is probably a good tuff bullet but the 145eldx precision hunter will be spot on as well

And the 140g Nosler Ballistic Tip in front of ADI2217
A big fast bullet beats a little fast bullet every time

Or partitions, or swift Scirroco or Norma bondstrike or oryx......or pretty much any decent soft point or anything else....waps aren't made of anything different to reds just bigger, pick your bullet based on the style of hunting your likely to do (ie: longrange, bush etc) most people seem to call them in close and shoot them so as long as you're not using a super frangible bullet at warp 9 it'll probably work.
If it was me a swift or oryx would be up there as they are bonded and won't explode up close if you hit bone. There are plenty of choices and more than 1 right answer.

I would go 150 grain Sako Norma Federal in that order -dependant on what you can buy - I used nothing but Forest Service supplied 150 grain for years and dropped big reds very well

winchester make a great bog std 150grn load..power point... works very well on reds .pretty sure it was Philip Holden who said waps were easier to kill than reds...same amount of bone n muscle to get through but bigger vital area...hard to argue with the logic
    75/15/10 black powder matters

Can't speak to the Kiwi variety, but we shoot a lot of Moose, Elk, Mule deer and Blackbear with 270win in Canada. it's plenty powerful enough for those species at normal (<350m) hunting ranges, and probably just fine out much farther, but I don't have any experience there.

140-150gr pills. Nosler Accubond & Partition, Barnes TSX & TTSX have been the favorites. I currently shoot a 150gr Accubond in my 270 and would happily hunt any Moose or Elk alive with it.

ive shot Sambar with the .270 an factory rounds.........
i typically say to use a heavier (150gr) prjectile if Cup an core................... cos the 270 is closer to 3000fps with 130gr the cup an core tend to wanna open up to much but if lung shooting no drama but hit bones an ya risk lacking penetration..

Accubonds r awesome.... Barnes if ya have a thick wallet, VorTX 130gr........

wouldnt hurt to make a load for wapiti using premium projectiles either...

FYI- im using the 7mm08 with a 140gr Woodleigh OR Corelokt Ultra Bonded reloads....... if customs let me out . (both sambar loads )
