Nah, that's a terrible scope, I swap it with you, got a nice Bushnell Trophy
But seriously, looks like a sweet setup, I don't think you can go wrong.

That would be bloody near the perfect first rifle right there.
6.5x55 is one hell of a good cartridge
And whatever you do dont loose the bolt. They have a habbit of dropping out

your best option for factory ammo would be european ammo or hornady superformance. I use federalm blue box power shok and its quite mild.
I just found it on tm.

As a regular 308 shooter I can honestly say that a 6.5x55 for a first rifle is a very wise choice
Also don't sell it - later on you'll regret it if you do and later on you can still do a lot of things with a 6.5 that will put NZ game food on your table
There will be a forum member local to you who Im sure will help you out with reloading, or your local chapter of NZDA. I currently have 4 blokes from beginner to halfway there who come around when their ammo is getting low. I teach them to reload on my bench using their brass, my gear. Initially I supply them with components including bullets if I have them. If not they buy a box. The powder and primers they pay me current replacement price for which when they are only loading say 50 to 100 rounds is not that big of a hit and way way less than factory. Eventually they buy their own components, box of bullets, tub of powder they have settled on, couple of sleeves of primers. They still come and use my bench and press. Good company for me, I enjoy reloading, they do the reloading steps and because they are not doing a lot of it I keep an eagle eye on things. The excitement they show when they make their first kill with a cartridge they built themselves is icing on the cake. And if they decide to set up their own bench I get to help with that a bit, usually on the phone lol but they still come around for a beer and a chat about their last or their next hunt.
So dont be afraid of a cal that shows its best strengths with handloading. Go join NZDA and find the serious reloaders. Some of them will be forum members. You'll be surprised how generous they are to someone keen and respectful.
And yes, I have a couple of 6.5x55Swede and reload for them and as above its a fantastic cal. I prefer them to the 308Win I have but whatever cal you buy, the same applies re handloading. Have fun
I know a lot but it seems less every day...
So did you manage to win the auction?
All 3 of those things, the rifle, the scope and the cartridge are high class and perfect for all round general purpose hunting anywhere.
Just think of it as the first 6.5mm that's fathered the 6.5 CM, 260Rem, 6.5x284, 6.5 Grendel, 6.5 Rem mag, 6.5 wwsm, 6.5x06, 6.5x57 6.5PRC and a host of custom 6.5's
And it still holds its own against any of them with modern ammunition and reloads.
Did I say "go for it" ???
