Am I able to drive up the mt white station road until the river or do I need to request access?

If it was me I would just ring them and ask, that way you can't be wrong.

Once you cross the bridge if you keep going there is a camp site
It will be empty until just on dusk...then it will fill before your eyes with campers
Be very careful re safety etc etc
    It is supposed public access
But give the Station a call just to make sure

Public road all the way to the Station. Just prior to the bridge, take the track on the left to the first gate, about 200 metres. Pull in to the DoC marked carpark, walk up river, easy peasy.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it's public accessible to head up past where St Margaret's College have their huts. Veer off and head for the Poulter, at the start of the climb up the hill there is plenty of pig rooting sign, continue on but check weather conditions before descending the slip into the Poulter, it's ok driving down but you won't drive back up if it starts raining.

Thirty years ago I had a rather interesting view of the slip when the driver of the vehicle was distracted and wheels went off the track.
    Never forgot that.

All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.
