What a great start to the series, good plug from FWF too.
Epic show thats for sure, what impresses me is how Greg gets around those hills with a full pack, i have know idea how old Greg is but must be pretty fit for his age.
Im a few days late catching up but man what an episode. Bloody awesome and well and truly deserved by Emil. Topped off with one mighty big walk out under a heavy load, love it.
Love how Greg is just an absolute workhorse. Would smoke most of us in the hills. Looking forward to getting more big country fitness up over the years. Good show
That was bloody awesome. My mrs watched it with me out of curiosity, and once the bull was shot she made a comment along the lines of “I can see why you do it now, that bull obviously meant a lot to Emil”
To me this just reinforced the importance of a well presented hunting show with the ethics and passion all shown in the exact right way for a non hunter to appreciate it. Well done Greg , fantastic episode.
Fantastic first episode and truly inspiring, even for those of us too far gone to get into that kind of malarkey in Fjordland sadly.... really enjoyed that. If you were to export that episode around the world it would go a long way to educating a lot of people.
Several questions on here so far about the rifle, pretty sure it was a .300 Win Mag. That Terminal Ascent bullet is a 200gr bonded design with the copper shank and the grooves. From what I have read it is similar to the Edge TLR design.
I would be interested to know from @GregD if the bullet exited such a large animal.
It is available on demand, watched again the other night. Fantastic 1st show of the new season.
It was a great first 2021 Episode thanks NZ Hunter! Having spent a bit of time on hard-out expeditions to Fiordland as usual the main challenges were;
1. The Weather (although mostly good this trip)
2. The steepness and random underfoot of Fiordland terrain - travel is always slow there
I was very impressed with your fitness Mr Greg D! :-)
And; Wild Kai Legends straight after! That's me sorted tonight! I reckon we're pretty lucky to have as many high class hunting shows on our tv. Was thinking about it the other day and I think we have to thank Hunting Aotearoa for being the leader that broke the way for the general acceptance of hunting programmes here.
Episode 2 - 1960's vintage deer cullers in the Ruahines - watch TVNZ's Duke - channel 13 freeview, 23 Sky - 8.30pm tonight!

Gees a .222 Sako vixen has gone straight up the priority list! What a nice rifle!
Bet a tidy one demands a premium these days.
Great show again. This is the only hunting show my family also enjoy watching. Well done Greg
Awesome. Loved seeing some of the old spots I cut my teeth in. Top gorge , Longview and howletts. Epic show.
Also I like the reference to trusty222. Although it might have been coincidence. Legend
@dvk-kp
They are awesome wee rifles, I bought one myself last year mainly for using on Sika & Fallow.
Generally around 2k give or take, there is an A1 .222 Sako Vixen currently in the for sale section - was listed at 2k now dropped to $1850. (Fyi an A1 is the next model newer than the one in the episode which is an L461, both models are Vixens).
Cheers for the info Pav. That’s more reasonable then I thought. Will get some coin together and keep an eye out.
Brilliant. Loved it. I really want to know if these episodes are viewable from overseas as there are some mates and rellies that really really need to watch this. I suspect they aren’t? Unless they use a VPN of course.
I would love to shove this episode up the nose of the poms who incessantly tell me that a .222 or .223 is unethical on red deer. Utter bollocks. To be fair there’s been a few on this forum that have said the same thing. Eat my shorts. Impressed with the dogs too. Another fantastic story from Willy and Greg, well done.
Great show fella's. Keep it up....
great to see the trebley 2 getting a work out along with the gear from the 60's deer culling days that Willy was sporting.
Plenty of animals out and about, and all seemed to be great condition. The long shot in the rain with 4x power scope with the 222 that Willey pulled off was pretty amazing. I thought Gregg was pulling his tit when he told him to neck shoot it ?!
No doubt Gregg's ears are still ringing from the muzzle blast from that braked magnum that went off next to him while filming. :wtfsmilie:
They are on tvnz on demand bro so can't see any reason why ya mates can't internet them sweet as [emoji106]
Unethical could be any caliber, unsurprisingly its all about shot placement [emoji41]
Another top watch. Cheers fellas

Great show of the Ruahine hunt. Have visited the Longview and Daphine huts years back and would like to do Howletts if the knees would let me, great country and excellent shooting especially with the little 222. A caliber that punches above it's size that's for sure.
Ripper start to the season.
Both episodes so far have been excellent. Especially enjoyed the Ruahine one.
Two great episodes so far. I enjoyed the "gutless" boning out demo. I'll be using that a bit over the next few months, sick of carrying bones and skin...
Good show, that 222 makes me want to take my Serbian 222 out more often.Accurate rifles thats for sure.Glad you let the big trout go,good breeding stock for a back country stream.
Tonight's episode takes us into a very remote and hard to get at part of South Westland to explore some new country and see how the tahr herd has come through the recent culling.

@GregD nice to see my old stamping grounds tonight.
Nice trip up the Valley.
Really enjoyed the program
Great filming
Shot my first 12 inch Bull below Red Deer Knoll.
Well done guys
Got a good chamois up the Copland.many years ago.
(funnily I can’t remember that many swing bridges?)
Do these programs end up on any online site
Awesome episode Greg!
Your escapades are something to aspire to.
Those shots of the climb in the steep snow made me queasy. I'm usually good with heights, but you can keep that for a laugh. I'll stick to bush stalking I think.
Liking this one Greg.
Very much appreciate the Duley's bringing us back to sanity and reality and true NZ values. Thankyou so much.
Crikey did you see where he’s going next week!
It's a great show. You guys do a fantastic job of showcasing what we do and why we do it.
My wife doesn't have the slightest interest in coming hunting with me, and refuses flatly to watch hunting related TV with me. For some reason, she was fascinated with your show last night and couldn't tear herself away!
I did not recognize GD
Last time I saw his face was in a magazine 20+ years ago
Incredible athlete
I could handle that terrain - the last 5 mins had me getting vertigo just watch it
THEN - he said coming back to climb "that"
Pointing at a sheer granite face
Now I thinking he slightly mad :-)
Cheers above for getting me to finally log in to the TV repeats online
PS
Top marks to Camera man too
He is supper fit also obviously
Is he Scandinavian blood - name looks like it ????
