    +1 on the practice in easier conditions suggestion. I had one wrapoed around my ankle on one trip when the guy behind me fell and panic set in. Was and interesting arrest...
    + another on the leash, saw a guy slip and missed the arrest amd lost his axe. Luckily there was a good run out but the ice is dam abrasive and wore through his pants and took the skin off one side of his leg cutting the trip.short (looks as though maybe i go out with the wrong people....)

    Hey Bill, is this a 'one off' trip? buy a cheap 'pre loved' one off TM, and then sell it when you get back! buy a straight shaft axe, the curved/bent ones are for 'ice climbing' and technical shit, you dont want to go there mate!!!!!!!

    if you hire one, you will be charge from the day you leave the shop till you return it....it will turn out cheaper to do the above!

    cheers mate itl be a one off trip every year hopefully

    Iv hunted plenty of times with out them but i really want to up my safety aspect
