I only hunt with a 20mm cannon firing depleted uranium rounds.
Kinda getting concerned I'm undergunned for anything bigger than a Fallow. Thankfully Barnes are releasing an exploding 30mm round with razor blades and cyanide capsules inside.
All I gotta do is expand the boltface, rechamber and barrel and Im ready for the fucking roar.

Ive owned a few, and shot a fair few, currently have .17 HMR, 22 mag, 222 Remington mag, .264 win and 300H&H, 300 win, most in Canada were there is perhaps more need, due to biting, clawing critters.
Only have a 22 mag and .264 win in NZ, I think the most useful, of the magnum center fires, is the 30 cal mid size (300wsm, 300 win, 300H&H) and the 375H&H, but these are unnecessary , heavy for NZ.
I really like my 300 H&H, I've had two now, Ruger #1 and M700, 165gr partion at 3150, and 220gr partion for a stopping round,

I've got a 416rem mag. Everything Ive hit with it has worked lol
I've always liked and wanted a 7mm rem mag and lately like the idea of a 30 cal but realistically its like gundoc said. You don't really need them.
read up a while back on the 264 win mag. They seem to go really well and would be a very interesting choice for one of my projects if the right barrel came up.

short magnums are barrel burners at the chamber end. but have a shorter action
300 win mag and 7mm rem mag are both good but the 7mm will shoot flatter.
i own a 7mmRM and its a tack driver but there is nothing in nz that a 308 wont drop

Cheers for the quick reply bro, that makes sense. Down the road may have to get magnum setup

You won't burn out a WSM in a lifetime of ordinary hunting, and less so a SAUM.
I've got a 300saum. No problem using un suppressed if need be with its 20" barrel, but I do mostly use a suppressor.

Shooting a deer with 150grn TTSX bullet with it at 300 yards has the same oomph as a 20" 308 probably does at probably 100 yards. That has to be a worthwhile advantage.

Yup, magnums are not necessary, but deer sure don't like them.

What's the story with belted vs straight magnums ?
Aren't the 375H&H derivatives so "Out of Africa" ?

I'd just assumed the 28Nosler would replace the 7RM like Creedmore has for 260 ...

It's to do with the case design and brass thickness. The belt means that less brass can be used in the parts that are likely to break I believe.

The belts on the old African magnums where to allow proper spacing since there isn't much of a neck to work off with the fatter bullets
