any ideas of good spots for goat hunting on west coast?
In and around Murchison....Inanghua... Maruia....Buller gorge...
You forgot the Mantle ;)
what about south of Greymouth?
Why not a red? So many deer around the coast.
goats great practice with bow.
why dont you either Ask DOC,westcoast F&G or even better still go for a couple of eyeball missions .
i dont know wether youre aware of it but requests like yours are often deemed offensive on here by quite a few members-just joined ask others for hunting possies or location of game -probably taken someon lots of hard yakka to find it on shanks pony!!
I know of some locations all with 25km of grey but im not gonna cough em up on here.
funny as heck...mate WORKS for DOC over there and even he struggles to find animals LOL.
whats funny is when we hunt together I struggle to find stuff too LOL its like we are jinxed over there....
in the few days i joined this site. I ve noted alot are negitive. So yes
there is a shite load of residual negativaty from the paid confiscation, then there is cabin fever because of lock down...then there is the wee thing that many many people are in financial hardship and more than a few folks are looking at redundency....worry over health of loved ones is up there too.....
you do get used to the negativity, you sort of grow a thick skin/filter for it.
Fuck some of you guys are strange...
Muzzyfan I'll send you some places for goats tomorrow.
NZHS is a place for sharing information. You can choose if you would like to or not. No one wants to see you and your friends being negative and abusive towards anyone else.
Must be going to the wrong places then. I've shot them not far off the road on doc land before.
If you don't mind driving to murchison then I'd try some of the public land around it.
My cousins have goats and reds off the back of their place and further beyond its public land for miles
Canoe Creek is good easy access north of Grey. really anywhere in the Paparoas. Rocky or Griffin Creek up the Taramukau. Odd one on the Mt Greenland track at Ross. How far south do you want to go?
it is definitely for sharing info -there are also unwritten rules attached one of which is ya dont pop up on here for five mins or its posting equivalent then ask others to reveal locations of game or their hunting spots .this poster did so, I took him to task on what i feel is a breach of ettiquite -nowt more or less until a couple of lardons jumped in .
the reason i spoke was when i was a newbie like OP i fell foul of a couple of the older posters and got my arse ripped-lesson learnt.
also some rather stupid comments re hunting goats with a bow and the prize goes to the poster -above the quarry in cobden ,above the cliffs on grey end of cobden bridge -hers a suggestion go straight to grey police station and jump in a spare cell cause as sure as christ made little apples youd end up there.last time a goat was shot behind Kells hotel in cobden.the cops had to act before a possee was formed to deal the the fool who did it!!!
Totally agree with your sentiments.
I dont share anything other than with people I trust and even then.
Goats and rabbits are genuine pests and have a different status as far as secrets go imo.
They breed a lot more rapidly than more sought after game and there is no shortage here on the coast. Well apart from rabbits of late.
I have been politely denied access to some places I have shot rabbits for years because there are so few and farmers like having a few for their kids or grand kids. I am all for that as it is fostering more hunters and the like.

Wasn’t that posse after the clown that shot the chamios?
i go down to fox abit hunting chamois. Seen goats on side of road at hari hari. But want somewhere with different ranges to test out by new hoyt nitrux bow at 80 yards plus before thar hunt later this year.
sweet, thank you
I've got a cunning plan for you...works with most things like getting jobs, fishing and hunting, borrowing trailers etc really you name it.
1.Go down to your local pisser, if not Rugby or other sports club. (after lock-down)
2.Get to know locals, shout a few beers, you might risk getting roped into the odd pressie Rugby or Cricket match.
3.I'm sure they will sort you out
keyboard warrior aye. Been hunting for 30 years, 25 with firearm. I started this post, if you did nt like it. You didnt have to reply to it. Show some basic human respect for others. Have a nice wet coast day. :)
