    Best Topo/GPS app

Howdy all. I was happily using ViewRanger for years, found it to be a great app. It was semi-recently taken over buy a crowd called Outdooractive, and I hate their app. If you’re a free user it has adds everywhere, and I’d paid for the NZ wide Topo maps on ViewRanger which I now can’t use.

What’s everyone using these days? All I want is offline GPS plotting and 1:50,000 Topo, with the ability to mark waypoints etc. Don’t need all of the fancy hiking/tourism features that a lot have now.

    Thanks

I keep going back to iHikeGPS. Great interface and easy/clear map download. Only downside is that it doesn't have satellite overlay or hunting areas marked. For this, I use NZ Topo Maps. I only used the latter to make sure I haven't strolled on to private land or occasionally, to find clearings, not that there are any in Northland!

yep, it has a record function. I don't put many markers on it but I sure find the map more user friendly than my Garmin 64

NZ TOPO50 - one off payment of around 5-6 bucks. Rate it.

yeah i use NZTopo50 as well. Nothing fancy and does what I need it to do. I pretty much only use the 'create' and 'record' feature besides the actual map and compass.

Another good android one is Topo GPS. Only about $7 from memory and has the whole country at 1:50k

Nztopo50. Be careful which one you buy. There are a few that look similar in the app store

We use Topo GPS daily at work with zero complaints or issues. Does everything you have highlighted there really well.
You also get the the whole country in the one purchase.
