    Block 42 Mueller River - Haast

    Gday.

    Mate drew this second period for next roar and has invited me along. Any pointers of any kind welcomed. Can send via PM if its easier.

    Was pretty empty for a long time, might be the dark horse to pick up a good stag.

    We had the block 2023. Didn’t see a lot but there was some sign around. If we ended up there again would be inclined to have a better look around alpine flat and above.

    Camped mid quail flat, just south of where hut is shown on map, hut has been demolished. Was probably the only reasonable spot on the flat and had been used by whoever had the block earlier. Reasonable trails both up and down stream. Moir’s guide useful. Let me know if you want any more info. Cheers

    Climbed up to primula spur and had a good look into shady ravine but no luck there, just a young stag as we came out of the bush.

    Not sure why but I can’t send a PM in reply to this. What period did you have it? Were deer using flats at night working beats? Or holed up in the bush up high. And how big was tthe campsite? Small tent sized or big enough for a decent tent set up?

    Had it post roar years ago ,head basin is spectacular,we saw zilch great looking chamois country .Wallows had been used be more animals there now .
