Catch em, Clean em, Eat em!

Went out for a walk with the dogs on Saturday, itd been raining all week but decided to head out anyway as i was still keen and wanted to take the dogs out for a stretch. Got the ol man to drop me off up the road where id seen some fresh sign of a decent sized pig and i was gonna walk back thru to the farm along a couple ridges.

Anyway got dropped off and the old man was on his way to judge a ridgeline hunt further north. I made my way along the ridges to no avail as there was no scent or fresh sign in the scrub. Made it to the back our block and gave my brother a call to come get me on the quad. Heading back thru our last bit of native gulley on our block before i got to the grass.
The main dog fern caught wind of something and went for a look, after about 5-10mins waiting for a strike or just some action i got out the garmin unit to see where she was. 250m away over the ridge down in the gulley(scruby gulley out in the grass paddock where my brother was coming to get me) she was 'treed quary' then i lost communication as the weather was crap and wet.

"Right i better get up to the grass ridge so i can hear better to see what going on." Got up onto the ridge but couldnt hear anything and it was windy and hard to hear, and still had our other dog with me. Made my way down the grass ridge a 100m and could hear a few barks but wasnt sure if i was hearing things or not. Got abit further down and the other dog took off. "She mustve heard something!" The wind stopped briefly and i could hear a steady bail down in the river, then the second dog got there and it was all on! Bitve a scrap and then they had him, he had a deep grunt/scoff at the start then they had him squealling. Got down there and it was a good sized eater so i put the knife into him. Praised the dogs for their efforts, feed them some liver and heart and carried the pig back up into the paddock and waited for my brother. Although he wasnt the pig i was after i was still stoked to come away with something!

Yeah most pigs this time of will have more hair, their winter coat. Was alright actually, only a young pig and caught in the river so that cleaned him up too

Singed bristle certainly isn't up there with roses eh Marty?
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Cheers mate, been doing it since i was little with the old man and his mates after every hunt that produced the goods. Alot easier if you have someone on the blow torch and someone with a knife scraping. Helps if you take the top hair off first, once youve done that hover the torch over an area till you see the skin sorta bubble and then scrap upwards (with the grain) with abitve force and it comes off easy.

Nope one of my least favourite smells. Last couple of pigs I've used the Mrs's horse clippers to get 99% off then the gas torch to burn off the stubble works a treat.

Do you need to sharpen the clippers afterwards?

Yes, fortunately the combs fit the shearing grinders pendulum and it uses std cutters. Got no horses now so it ony gets used for occasional crutching jobs on the ships
