Clements mill rd end to Te Iringa peak

    Afternoon everyone,
Looking at some options for a 2 night loop covering Kaipo, cascade, Hinemiaia.
Does anyone have any intel on best route from Clements mill rd end to Te Iringa peak?
Looks like following the catchment that leads up to points 1051/1135 might be alright (unfortunately Topo doesn’t tell me how thick the bush is…).

    Cheers

The first option is pretty straight forward. But not sure about your order of things. Hinemiaia to Cascade over the Kaipo saddle then eventually up the Tiki Tiki and over Te Iringa is a good walk. A good couple of nights. Should bang into Jap no problem. The bush, typical NI beech, the good, the bad and the ugly.

As for the road end to Te Iringa. I'd go the other way. Bloody sight easier. Te Iringa track to the summit, not hard, then top ridge covering off the two points you've named. Drop down a suitable spur eventually hitting the Hinemaiaia track. Used to be great hunting on the bottom terraces. The ridge top gave great access to amazing gut heads. Mind you, I was last up there a number of years ago but doubt it's changed much.

    Agree with Ruger above^.
once you get up to Te Iringa high point 1240 there is an old hunters track along the very top through the bush- south west all the way to Whangatikitiki 1318 (I've heard this from other hunters). Last time I was there would be 4 or 5 years ago- ridge track was clear in parts- and a little overgrown in parts. Deer wont be hard to find on the north side=sun.

id agree with you Antsman. hunted the top ridge from te iringa a couple of roars ago. pretty easy going . myself i would go just past 1338 and drop down thru saddle to track. save walking back up from cascade.

Yep. In the middle of 1240 and 1338 in the saddle there's a decent flycamp area.
