Yep I had one of those f##kup's a month or so back on a large red hind. First saw them over 600 mtr away.
Had a good clear shot at 300 meters but we decided we could get closer, I was a little concerned about the wind and rain plus my mate would also have a better chance of getting a shot off as well. (Mob grazing on a grassy headland) Dropped down and climbed back up to them on the grass. The grass was too long for a prone shot.
We got to about 30 mtrs away and I lifted up to a kneeling position and nailed it, got that good solid thump of a sound hit. But she made it 20 mters to the bush and disappeared. We walked up and down the game trails in the bush. My mate also clean missed his first shot and then had a missfire. (he nailed one the previous evening at 150 mtr)

The times they are a changing. Here we are as hunters concerned about the animal rights issues in this clip, as we should be. All hunting is going to fall under even greater and greater scrutiny in the future, not from us and not just from animal rights groups but also the general publics expectations. Rodeos are in trouble, tail docking cows and dogs banned, farrowing crates and layer cages phasing out all stuff that was quite acceptable a few years ago. Overseas who would have thought the Brits would ban Fox Hunting or that in parts of Aus pig holding dogs would be banned. More people in future NZ means a greater disconnect between the majority city and the minority rural and hunter/gatherer types. How long will it be as an example, until using a live Kahawai with a hook through it's back swimming under a balloon is banned ?. Our only saviour from scrutiny is that our game animals get lumped into the 'pest' introduced mammal category. Perhaps we should think about what the non hunters will be expecting and scrutinising in the future and what hunters need to do now in anticipation ??

in videos like that the animal has been down graded to not much more than a balloon/gong. we didnt see the harvesting of all that prime meat which SHOULD BE focus/end goal.important bit.

Well with northdude I must concur a 3006 is surely manly as it has been used by Men defending their freedoms with honor, in the face of death as a service calibre.
The 416 well that would require a different test. While it is very true that a boy could not use one, it doesn't have the same breeding as the H&H, the honor of the 3006 or 'old money' respectability now that Remington is in financial straits. So while the 416 might be a mans gun it is not the gun of a Gentleman.

the gunsmith dude from the gun club has a P14 in 375 HH. Big muzzle brake-230(ish cant remember)grainers at nearly about 3000fps. he reckons recoil is pretty good very accurate, flat shooting and apparently awesome on deer.
Well you are all class mate, Ha. Haven't checked but I am sure the 375 could be loaded to shoot that Elk cow at long range. But as others have said the gap could have been closed quite a bit. If Kas shot that elk cow with a classic like the H&H at say 500 yards that would be a lot more respecting of the animal and still be something a bit different and worth watching.Quote:

It malletted pretty much everything he aimed at.
