Thread: Day hunt near Auckland possible?

Hi everyone, first time posting here.

I’m wondering if there are any spots in or around Auckland suitable for a day hunt. I have googled, but personal recommendations would be much better. I’m mainly looking for an excuse to get out and explore, but bringing something home or helping with pest control would be a nice bonus.

I’m an experienced outdoorsman, but relatively new to hunting in NZ. I have done a couple of hunting trips on private land around Rotorua. Family commitments mean I don’t get many free weekends, so I spend most of my shooting time at the range.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations for public land that’s suitable for day hunts, or private land opportunities closer to Auckland.

There are some private/guided hunting opportunities for fallow deer in the South Head area. I don't know how fulfilling it would be as I haven't done it myself.

Your only public land options are the kaimais or pureora. Bit of a drive if your nth Auckland.

There must be some goat hunting in Waikato that can be done as a long day trip from Auckland.
