Feedback on Makahu Rd (Kaweka Hunters)?

    Seasons greetings everyone!

Just want to know a bit about the road (Makahu) into the hot springs. I hoping to take the family in for a few days glampng at the camp sight at the end of the road. I'll be all right with the 4wd but was wanting to know if the wife will be ok in her Toyota Corolla. We have to take two vehicles due to the kids all taking a friend each. I've heard there's a ford but don't know much about it. Some feedback would be much appreciated. Cheers

It was a way to be intimate with nature, that intimacy providing us with wild unprocessed food free from pesticides and hormones and with the bonus of having been produced without the addition of great quantities of fossil fuel. . . . . . . . We lived close to the animals we ate. We knew their habits and that knowledge deepened our thanks to them and the land that made them.”

There is a ford not far in, unless heavy rain u b ok. If wet road can become pretty dirty etc. other than that be ok. Watch out for other road uses coming up the hill.

You'll have no worries taking a Toyota corolla into the Blue gums.

Was up there a few weeks ago and the road is good as gold.

The ford generally only has a few inches of water and has a good concrete base.

Check out the water level markers before you cross and if under the red line you'll be fine.

Take your rifle and a fishing rod as there is good hunting and fishing all along the river towards Te Puia Hut.

It's a popular place and I'd be surprised if you were camping alone.

The Hot Tubs are great for a relaxing evening swim.

    Have fun.

    Cheers
    Pete

Take some insect repellant. Sandflies galore. Great cicada fishing that time of year. If you're into fishing take the old track along the river, not the new one up 10min creek before Te Puia. Some nice bends with deep pools there.
You will definitely not be alone!

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

    hahahahaha

Seems you can spin fish everywhere you can fly fish @kiwijames

Can even use bait for trout too.

Apparently Huhu's work well on a streamer fly ............ easily comes off the hook with a simple flick when required too

You will get glares of disdain from us more pure types.
