@Moa Hunter is that on doc land that she gets ‘em?
Pretty good kill streak.
What would a trained doc typically do? Flush them out?
Normally tear them to pieces.
Had a boxer/rhodesian ridgeback cross. Was a bit of a sensitive soul, but turned into a raging freak whenever she sighted a cat. And that was from a puppy. Nothing we did to her to make her that way.
Anywho, she used to trundle along glued to my side when I push biked to and from work. One day we biked past a 'cat lady's place who used to put free cat tucker out for stray moggies. Dog instantly turns into Mr Hyde: cats make for nearest tree. Dog zooms up tree just as easily as cats, breaks two necks and throws them out of the tree before I can blink and call her off. Rest of the cats get out so far along various skinny branches that they do a good impression of Hunter McDonald on the Len Lye windchime pole in Wellington. Trots back to my side proud as punch![]()
Yeah, I know the full sized Poodle is a great dog, but mate, ya gotta do something about that name!
" Wanna go hunting mate?"
"Yeah, great idea. I'll bring my poodle along"
"Err, second thoughts, lets go to the pub"
Very smart dogs, my mum had a miniature, we kept his coat, close clipped and took him into the bush, particularly effective with wallabies on Kawau Island. Not bad with Goats up north.
Call 'em Caniche...
Wiki - Caniche in French, is a breed of water dog.
Poodles have been used as working dogs in the military since at least the 17th century, most likely because of their highly intelligent, trainable nature and background as a gundog making them suitable to battlefields, as evidenced by their ability to be trained to ignore gunfire.

I shot one in the upper reaches of the Makino this time last year, at least 7 hrs walk from the nearest road.
There’s more of those little bastards out there than you would ever think.
Shot 13 on the one rural farm last year. Only 4 this year. Also shot 745 rabbits ( last year)on the same 400 acres so plentiful food for the cats. All fat with several litters running with Mum. Farmer wants them shot to reduce the risk of ewes aborting.
There are literally wild cats everywhere and more of them than most people realize !!
Only good cat is a dead one if you ask me
These would be two of the most effective traps to use on cats
1. Trusty old cage trap
2. The Steve Allen Cat kill trap
(set and forget, take no prisoners trap this one)
