I think, but cannot find where I saw it, they tell you to bugger off and come back nearer expiry date.
Given they are loaded to the gunnels with new applications and near to expiry renewals why would they process a renewal so far out from expiry?

Mine expired in March 2024, I applied to renew in June 2023 (winter works better for form filling).
    Avoided any registration issues.
My FL now expires in March 2034.

I think trying to renew a FL with a 2026 expiry will not be allowed.

I renewed early (still had 1 year to go), and my new FAL expires in 11 years time.
So they do not cut back your current FAL.
They add on the 10 years to the expiry date of your current FAL.
But mine was a 1 year early job, 2 or more years might be stretching it a bit?

Agreed. My mate is dreaming. Simple things like changes in his life may affect renewal. Authorities would be foolish renewing any fal that far out.

I asked them. There is no limit on how early you can renew your license.

They've massively simplified the renewal process for people who haven't come to the attention of Police. Very high trust model. Literally 10mins on me and my partner, about 20mins with my referee on the phone. Check of the safes, talked about the Registry and how I found using it, all up about an hour.

A surprise, but a pleasant one.
