About your dog prints. Possum and hare prints in the snow retain their basic shape as they melt a bit, but get a lot bigger. Maybe that's what you saw.
Unless someone had been up there with a dog hunting, which isn't unusual but I imagine you would have seen the person's tracks too.
Well done on the Chamois. I don't like the meat, but the pelt is a pretty good trophy. I thought Ryan would have been all over you with his charm...that is a 270 you have got isn't it??
ill post up the photos in time, i put my hand there for size.... definalty not the ol poss or hare, a big triangle pad, with 4 paw pads with toe nails exposed- so rules out the big otago cat.... ha ha
i feel as though dogs inthe NP are rare for Hunters? is it a thing you can take them with permit into conservation land, not sure about the National Parks? certainly no human tracks in any of the same snow, maybe old mate tip toed around though and the dog just took the straight line path...

Nah look im not fussed on the attempt at public shaming me for the trophy hunting, Like Australia, with the NZ regs I didnt read anything that mentioned it was law to bring out meat from any game shot animal.... i understand the kiwi folklore is that the animals are shot to be eaten and that it is a huge culture to do so-
i'll take an animal from easier extractions if i want to fill the freezer- will use what i can in camp foods when needed an most likely take backstraps when the weather suits and im not up a valley for 4 days or so...

Get some peroxide, a BBQ foil tin tray, a small brush and start applying the peroxide all over and inside the skull.... leave for a day and then repeat and the skull will come up stunning.
For the horns... apply a thin coat of Danish oil on then and you'll be amazed
Make sure you keep some meat off the tahr as we found them to be very tasty
