Gamack block
I’m planning a three day trip early July and was wanting to check out the Gamack block just off Lake Pukaki. Anyone spent much time in there? Access looks like I can either head up to the Jollie hut, or up the easement off Braemar road. It’s obviously going to be cold up there, so we will bring the required warm gears.
According to Doc there are tahr and chamois in there, but I was chatting to a guy that said he had had heaps of success up there with red deer.
If anyone has any experience with the block I would appreciate any advice.
Cheers

Head in the easement to Jollie hut then walk SW from hut up the old logging track. Once it flattens out a bit walk SSE down the doc boundary towards manuka creek. Should be the odd red mooching around in the scrubby areas. Take a lightweight saw in case you need to retreat to the hut and cut some wood. Used to be plenty of slash around the place.

Any info on Tahr numbers around the Ben Ohau range? It's close to Mt Cook so brings the though that they cleaned it out or is it worth a look?
