    Helisika private blocks

    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has been to either the Otupua or Makokomiko helisika blocks semi recently and could give some advice on animal numbers and what the blocks are like to get around.

My wife and I are looking to do a trip soon for our anniversary and thought a private block with a hut would be nice. My wife is yet to shoot a sika also so am hoping to go with a block that gives us the best chance of doing that. These two blocks are the only ones available at short notice.

    All advice is much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Jamie

Looks up Clarke brothers hunting on YouTube. I think they do a summer meat hunt in makakomiko each year. Might not be that but is something similar.

Can’t find the video where they say the name of the block but here’s a similar video of their summer mission: https://youtu.be/0t2my7sOM4c

Take plenty of water if hunting the tops. Can get bloody cold up the tops at night even in summer.

Most blocks have no velvet stags to be shot rules.

Have fun, and give us a report on how you go.

    Thanks for the advise @Rusky

Seems the blocks have changed a lot since the ACT days that I remember.

Have a read of the Kaimanawa forest park thread and ask yourself if you want to support Helisika.

Also, congratulations on your anniversary, and additional congrats for marrying someone who shares such a wonderful part of life.
