    Help needed in Hokitika

Hey lads got some American mates over. And one has shot a stag this evening but couldn't find it. Any chance someone has a dog we can use to find it? It's a front end shot so sucking chest wound and with the rain no blood is going to be left.

might be a case of ever increasing circles...take some shite paper and mark anything you suspect is his tracks...if hes hit hard in chest he shouldnt go far....fresh eyes and daylight might be all you need.

Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts

If you shoot an animal with a 270 or wsm inside 500 yards and it runs, safe to say it's not the caliber, there is also the possibility that it fell down into a scrubby gut.
No need for another caliber pissing contest there is more than enough of them around already.

    How do you figure ?
I was responding to someone else's jibe about using a 270, if you think that's starting a pissing contest I think you have miss interpreted my comment.
There are many reasons for shot animals being lost, my comment was aimed at the fact it's rarely the caliber that is to blame.

Well I took some Canadians hunting yesterday.
Got the young fella set up on a nice red stag at 415m with my R93 300wsm 196 Berger VLD s nightforce 5.5-22.
He took the shot from a great rest off the bipod.
A little bit of pressure on him, but an experienced 16 year old.
All three of use watching called it as a clean miss because the noise wasn't of a good him and the stag bolted without any sign of a hit.

So we did the right thing and trecked down and up to where he was last seen !
And there was a very dead stag just inside the bush !
With wholes in the exact right place !!
