Seems too happen every year. Condolences to all.
Was he on his own ?? As he was "Found Dead" ?
Guess we will have too wait for more info, could be heart attack? And not the worst scenario I immediately thought of.
it is understood the man, in his late 20s, died as a result of a gunshot wound.
Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen, of Wairarapa CIB, said the man's hunting companion, a 59-year-old man, phoned police shortly before 2pm to report the death.
No matter how it happened its never good.
Condolences to his family and friends.
terrible, my condolances to the familys envolved
greg
Terrible to hear, human error would be my first guess...
condolences to the familie's affected
Don't guess. Wait for the facts.
and my husband wonders why i am not that keen about going out in the roar.
Dont get me wrong this is terrible and we need to be careful but.... 3 million people will go driving this easter weekend, statistics say 6 will die... Maybe 300000 people will go hunting this roar 1 will die according to statistics... Its like crossing the road its an elemental risk...
Thats the way I see this sort of thing....
And I agree Baldbob, there was a kicker to that story on stuff where they said 8 hunters had been shot in the last 10yrs.
How many people have been killed on our roads by licenced drivers in the last ten years.
I will say that by posting the above I do not mean to take away or in any way minimize the terrible tragedy of this situation and my condolences go to the family of the berveaved.
The poor bastards are usually shot by their mates, a lot to be said for hunting alone I reckon.....
Come on team, Identify your target please!
Condolences to the family.
Yep it looks like it was another hunter , but still very common that victim and shooter are hunting together, which makes it even more crazy. I wonder if there has ever been a comparison with other countries, once population differences have been factored in.

Have not had chance to read it but this report could be of interest, released 2003 by Inspector Joe GREEN. He studied fatal shooting / hunting cases from mid 70's i think.
I just find it sad that this sort of thing, considering all the education still happens and due to human condition/judgement and will continue to do so.
My condolances to the family of the young fella tragically lost. Very very sad and avoidable.
What annoys me is that people dont apply the rules of never shooting at movement only; colour only; sound only; shape only; a target on the skyline. It actually amazes me that people dont follow those basic rules!!!
If you read up on these cases most often the shooter had identifyed shape, coulor, sound. Its the fact that the mind will see what its expecting to see(a deer) and these shooters usually had (they thought) IDd a deer.
The roar can be an exciting time.
Its another reminder that no matter how amped you are you need to take 2 seconds to calm yourself down and make sure your target is not human .
My Dad's mate got shot not once but twice by the same idiot....and he was standing on a track smoking a cigarette. I'm fairly new to hunting so correct me if i'm wrong but wouldnt you think twice if you saw your next 10 pointer smoking a winfield????
Why has the shooter not been found yet? or rather why has the gutless prick not put his hand up and said I fucked up I shot him.
When he is found i hope he gets the book thrown at him.
This guessing, and the blind accusations, and the assumptions. You know nothing, so leave it alone.
Gutless prick.... Id say it will be a fair weight of guilt to carry round.... Better to lighten the load and own up..
Tahr because if he had owned up, he would've been sitting next to the body when it was retrieved. Normal people do that - take responsibility for their actions. Some wanker called Mears did the same thing - didn't want to follow the rules, simply do his own thing his way. Spot light at night ? Yeah, no problem.
Remember, this guy is dead.

Nice deletion of your post Tahr too.Quote:
Police have released a photo of the hunter shot in dense Wairarapa bush on the weekend, after receiving a ''limited'' response from other hunters in the area.
Alexander Cameron McDonald, 29, known as Cam, was shot on Saturday in an isolated area of Aorangi Forest Park, near Pirinoa in South Wairarapa.
McDonald was killed instantly by a shot to the head.
Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen said police were still interested in hearing from hunters who were in the area over Easter weekend, and who may have seen or heard anything that could help with the investigation.
''To be honest, the response we've had so far has been pretty limited,'' he said.
Four Wellington hunters have already been questioned by police and it is understood investigators believe one of the men fired the shot that killed McDonald.
A 59-year-old man from Greytown who was hunting with McDonald came across his body about 2pm, and phoned police
Normal people also leave the site immediately to get help. All I am saying is wait for the facts. They will likely disabuse some of your assumptions and accusations.
I deplore what happened and it is inexcusable, and yes, he will have to live with it for the rest of his life.
Yes, I deleted telling you (and others) to shut the hell up with your wild guessing about a terrible tragedy. I rather regret I deleted it now.
Agreed. Who knows where the next media 'discovery' is going to originate from - I'd say they troll through here looking for info too.
This poor young hunter was photographed with a stag shot by his mate befor he was shot. He is wearing a red beanie ,as a lot do. I recall a few years before another hunter was shot in the head ,he too had a red hat. If you see the photo of the poor fellow in the article the beanie is not dissimular in colour to the red deer. How is it red is the only choice as a safty garment ,why not hi vis green ? .Ive seen plenty of red deer never a green one !. If someone could put the link up of the photo in stuff .co you will see. I agree these shooting accidents are avoidable and we should not have to look like a neon sign , but I think red or orange is too close to a red deer, Bush light is nothing like open air light. Would like to hear some feedback

The photo in question, taken 3 hours before he was shot. He was shot @1.30 in the afternoon. He and his shooting partner had 2 way radios and GPS.
I agree compleatly.. Blaze looks like a deer in low light.... Quite a number of guys actually shot are wearing blaze.... The case up the rough river.... That guy was shot in the head an was wearing blaze beanie..... There was a study and a police pamphlet put out a number of years ago about this blaze lokking like a deer........ Blaze is used inthe states on open plains where its effective but it seems that its not in NZs bush...... Which makes me feel bright blue is the way forward.. Nothing in the bush is blue...
"SHOT" in the head...... Cant edit on my phone lol
Blaze can never look like a deer. Does blaze have a head, ears, four legs and look like a f*#ken animal? Some of you guys on here and the other forum are going down the wrong track discussing colour. Don't shoot until you can see its a deer and not a human.
Take a look at the picture above, they're quite different. Does anyone here think he looks in any way like the deer beside him?
Blue sounds good ,have thought about that too . I'm sure someone may be able to help out . I know deer see ultra voilet , don't know if this means hi vis blue is a no go .?
