    Hunting areas in southland

    Hi guys,
I am planning on visiting a mate of mine that lives in Wyndham in Southland. I was wondering if anyone would be able to recommend a spot to go for a day hunt?
    Thanks very much in advance!

You're close to The Catlins in Wyndham.

Try the Waipohatu, it's a great spot, just go up past the campsite and head into the wind . .

Awesome thanks for the info guys, really good stuff.
Hoping to hunt slips, clearings or creeks etc as there will be two of us hunting together - usually just bush stalk when I’m on my own to be more inconspicuous, and will probably only have time for a day hunt unfortunately

Bit of a drive, but Piano Flat is always good, just got to get a restricted permit from DOC. Never had any problem getting on to animals in there.

Most of the catlins is solid bush unless you get access to private land. Piano flat/waikaia could be good.
