There's tonnes of deer there. It's overrun if you fly in try shoot some Hinds for meat. You couldn't put a dent in it solo of you tried.

North facing slopes they won't be moving much and will be out longer than you would think.

There’s hundreds. I’d easily see 60-100 deer per trip in there

Alright, stop the messages lads. If you’re having a hard time in there it’s because you’re following the main walking tracks. Take a Friday off. Walk in on Thursday night and out on Sunday. You’ll have plenty of time to see animals. Cross the swing bridge at the red marker and follow the ridge up on the right when you get a clear spot.

You can't miss them in the RHA. As has been said, its over run. Will see 50 to 100 for a weekend trip without too much trouble. Just gain some height, find a decent vantage point and start looking.

The interesting thing is that this isn't even in the RHA. This is open permit WARO area.

The Hooligan can be very intimidating in bad weather so definitely be aware of that.

Na there’s a wide shallow section you can cross. Was meant to say, you can cross the river on the shallow section on the market or use Sister swing bridge - jollie brook and follow it south. There’s plenty of 4wd crossing points along the way that can be crossed by foot. Some on private land so only use them if you get permission from the station.
Go for a drive out there and you’ll quickly find the crossing points I’m talking about. Mark them and you’re good to go. If it’s raining you’ll have no choice but to use the swing bridge so bare that in mind

Yea I assume it’s because everyone thinks they need to head up behind the lake to get animals. I had a walk in on last light many years ago and mistimed my walk so decided to cross the river and cut up that ridge. Haven’t regretted it since
