    So ok, a hunter coming over from us, what would he need to get a temporary firearms license?

    Details are all on the firearms website.
    Name of a local person with license and storage or hunting outfitter.

    Firearms License in home country.

    I lend all sorts of stuff to people, and am a firm believer in "no asky, no getty", but sorry mate, I'd be pretty sketch about lending out a rifle to someone I didn't know well (I wouldn't even lend a rifle to some people I do know well!)... it would fail my 'headline test', for a number of reasons outlined above.

    One thing I started doing when lending stuff to people is to tell them the replacement cost, so if it comes back damaged, there's no surprises with what they owe (things suddenly started coming back in a lot better condition).

    By that rationale, you'd need to have a wad of cash ready to throw at a borrowed rifle that came back damaged... as someone mentioned, spending that on something that's yours could be a good option - a couple of sighters into a cardboard box on arrival and you'd be away. Good option here near you - ask for $100 discount and you're in business: https://www.guncity.com/65x55-carl-g...nthetic-388864, and coming from a highly trusted and reputable store, if it's a shitter, you can take it back for a refund.

    I've noticed even on here the sales have gone quiet. Wonder if many FAL holders are sitting tight to avoid triggering an activating circumstance for the registry.

    Holy shit!!! I thought this was a reasonably innocuous question but some of the response’s are enough to put the fear of God in anyone. The breadth of human nature and tragedy never ceases to surprise me. I feel truly sorry and appalled at some of the experiences people go through.

    I will admit that I didn't think this post would be so controversial

    Turn around times would be the most likely and obvious explanation for this, and a quick peruse of the OPs post's supports the theory.
    Also if he is a sock puppet as has also been suggested in another post, then he is certainly playing the long game.

    Although I do have to agree with the detractors on lending to strangers, as I also agree with the detractors on lending to friends. I do lend power tools to some of my friends, but when it comes to firearms, I just prefer not to have the worry let alone the grief. In my view, if someone can borrow a rifle they can buy one. I base this statement on them having a FAL and if a person was happy to use a borrowed rifle than they would be happy enough to use a cheap second hand rifle, at which point the barrier to purchase is not a factor if that person is borrowing to go hunting (Other than in some specific scenarios).

    @Tall kiwi, it might be getting a bit late in the week for it now, but what Mickey Duck suggested and buying second hand is probably the best bit of advice you will get here. Think of it this way;

    If you could hire a rifle for the weekend, the hire cost would probably be equal to or more than depreciation over a year or three. So by buying and selling you get open ended hire for the hypothetical cost of a weekend hire.

    Tall Kiwi, have you considered offering to take one of the members with you?
    They might loan you a rifle AND give YOU some beers.

    @No good names left unfortunately the mission didn't happen. My mate who was going to come and provide a couple rifles had some car trouble and couldn't make it out. That was okay though because I still managed to get some trigger time with my .22 and punch a bunch of holes into some targets.

    Fortunately, I just picked up a new (to me) toy just yesterday arvo. Managed to snag a secondhand Howa 1500 in .243 for $500. I also recently inherited a great condition DPT suppressor which matches the rifle so feel like I'm sorted for a wee while.
    @Micky Duck heading out tomorrow to sight in. Got a hunt planned (weather dependant) next weekend. Have some family friends that have wild pigs doing damage to their property that they want taken care of.
