    Hunting south canterbury

    Hello guys new in the forum looking for some pointers around south canterbury area mainly looking for reds ,

    Lots of them around get DOC permit and go find them.this has never been a hugely deery place but it's hell of a lot better numbers wise than it was thirty years ago. Pretty much any doc block with decent amount of trees in it is worth a look. There are deer in open scrubby blocks too. You won't know till you go and look.

    I have hunted most blocks about the place and all of them hold deer helps if you can stretch the legs on your rifle in the more open ones go up mt studholme and roll some wallys for some pratice and if you stretch the legs a bit there's tahr goats pigs reds fallow and the odd chamois up there, other than that every blocks good, head to any of the mid canterbury blocks and they hold plenty of deer, anywhere you can drive a truck in is a bad place to start as that's what every weekend warrior does

    Practice on roos,drop the deer.
