Be a bit careful with bird netting, a kea tangled up by it's feet in netting could be a bit more than a handful trying to get them untangled, I suspect they wouldn't be happy and you might loose a finger or two. I think you would be better off using tape as a deterrent.

You mean like tape their mouth up. That would work, no need for a four one zero.

Alright this one's a bit outside the box. A mate of mine is a chef, the restaurant he was working at had a bird problem (seagulls and pigeons). After trying all the conventional tactics someone put them onto toy rubber snakes. Haven't had a bird problem since. The theory is that it's ingrained in them to fear snakes, even if there aren't naturally snakes in the country.

So who's going to be the first to fly in a couple of rubber snakes to whack on the tent fly? Haha

Took 4 snakes into elizabeth stream. Saw a few kea about. Camp wasn't bothered. But we weren't in base camp for a couple days so can't say whether they scared them off or if the kea just didn't come to camp at all.

I wonder how the rubber snakes would go detering starlings etc???? Sounds like a good way to deter kea if and only IF it works.

I'm heading into Kea country soon and my wife suggested putting a bit of chilly powder in some party balloons, blowing them up and attaching them to the fly. Kea flies in, attracted by the pretty balloons, and pops one. A loud bang and hot tongue may deter them?

How about a portable fence energiser and a bunch of fuse wire strung in + and - pairs along the spots they are likely to land etc.
