Lansky, Edge Pro, steel, little Lansky/Gerber type handheld pull-thru type thing?
Or do you just use the good ole fashioned stone?

Stone at home to sharpen and steel in the bush to straighten the edge if it needs it.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Started with an edge pro .. which was and is awesome .. but now I have the ultimate ... Scary sharp ... its the business ....
in the field I have a stone in my ute and carry a steel ...

Stone and strop at home with wet n dry if you want to go crazy. Small steel in the field. Buy a good knife with he good steel and limit the time spent messing with the thing in the first place.

I fucking suck at sharpening knives so I just pay someone else to do it. I have nice ones so don't want to ruin them.

I am in the same boat as you proudkiwi I suck at sharpening but slowly getting better at it, would probably help if I had a bigger stone (small buck diamond stone is what I am using) and knives that can actually hold an edge the knife I currently have is a buffalo river drop point. No I have an Edge Pro which I find quite good. But then I can't beat the ease of my small lansky sharpener that I use in the field. I have heard great things about the scary sharp and am trying to stop myself from getting one as buying a house is probably more important

$12 stone from bunnings at home, nothing in the bush. Knife has a great leather sheath. Found it absolutely brilliant, really enjoy looking after my kit.
Sharpening the knife and cleaning the rifle are a great way to relax and debrief

Thats interesting, I was looking to upgrade my scary sharp and try the Wicked Edge sharpener. I think the Tormek would be the ultimate if budgetary constraints didn't apply. Originally Posted by kiwi39

Stone and steels at home, just take the knife hunting.
Have no need of a knife that can't deal to an animal without needing a touch up.

I scour the place for anything and everything that even resembles a knife. Chuck them in a box, put box in car, Drive to VC's stopping on the way for a box of beer, Leave knives and beer at his house, Pick up knives later.
I totally suck at sharpening knives but Cam doesn'tBRADS likes this.All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

I use Japanese water stones at home & have a small buck diamond steel that lives in my daypack, it's good for sharpening my mates knives.
