    Lawrence hut area

We are group of 3 elderly hunters with myself just turned 70. We are looking for somewhere to fly in to for our annual catchup trip and wonder if anyone can shed any light on animals and species. Youtube shows plenty of 4wds going up there so just wondering what animal numbers are likely to be like. Also considering up around the Bivvy if thats a better option. Does anyone hire out those safari type tents with the mini stoves? TIA

The Lawrence still holds good numbers of tahr, and maybe the odd deer. A good chunk of the TR of the lower Lawrence is Erewhon country and will require permission if you want to hunt it. But good hunting right through the valley. The biv has been renovated by the DA and the Backcountry Trust, a tent would be advisable.

Thanks Mate, but I think the weight might be a problem in the heli along with 3 of us and gear. What is the weight?

As above, take some form of additional accommodation if going to the Bivi. It’s a good spot and you will have no problems finding Tahr.

Yeah about 20kg plus another 10kg or more of firewood , works well if doing multiple trips in the helicopter
With 2 people in a single I can take enough wood to last a week, with 3 you would be pushing it .
Presuming your flying in a 500 the weight is usually 420kg
