Man dies Hunting in Fiordland - NZ Herald

The below is an article from the Herald this morning.

A 75-year-old man has died while hunting in thick forest in Fiordland. The man's teenage companion raised the alarm about 5pm last night when he made his way back through bush to Gunns Camp, Hollyford Valley, night after the hunter collapsed.

A helicopter was dispatched from Te Anau with a doctor and police staff, but when they arrived at the scene the man was pronounced dead. The helicopter and long line were used to pull the body from the bush.

Sergeant Tod Hollebon said the teenager did very good job marking a trail out to the road and assisting the search and rescue effort. The death was not suspicious and has been referred to the coroner.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends. RIP old fellah. Your life ended doing what we all love to do.

Thats the way I'd like to go.

Sure beats being abandoned by the kids, living out your time with stramgers in the Old Timers homes waisting away in an ever increasing state of dementia

    RIP mate.
