    Mangatainoka Hut - Kawekas

    Hi Team

Flying in with young kids to Mangatainoka DOC Hut for the weekend. Are there any slips around close by to watch with the kids? Would be wasting my time stalking with them lol.

Wouldn’t think there is much growing on the slips this time of year, best bet would be sunny areas if you can find them.

We walked along the air strip then you too the old hut. About halfway there, across a creek there’s some slips and cut clearings. Shit one there with some kids.

@Durrie, how did you get on?

I’ve been in there once during summer, saw plenty of animals even shooting at one from the hut.

Plenty of ongaonga to watch out for!

@Freezer Really? I thought it was tropical when we went in there

Kids made a hell of a racket.... came very close in on a stag, but nothing shot. Sign everywhere. Great spot, loved every minute. Kids got a good introduction to Onga Onga lol. Found a couple of well used wallows only 5 mins from the hut. Would love to go back without the kids.......
