Quite a few years ago I stopped at a roadside rest area between Awakino and Urenui and there were two sheepskins hanging on the fence.
Someone I mentioned it to reckoned there was some old law that said you could take livestock for food as long as you left the skin - couldn't find even a rumour of the law myself.

Cripes, if that was the case the fences around Hamilton would just look like a continuous wall of white.

I had a look at the legislation website, the Crimes Act quite clearly says taking of livestock is theft, punishable by up to 7 years imprisonment.

Sorry, bud. The available evidence suggests Mr Plod's management are not that interested in anything other than, soft, known-to-be-law-abiding targets.

Individual police officers - and good on them - tackle very difficult situations they encounter, but the Siegfried-Cahill-Maginot Line is "Let us attack them where they will not defend against us".

Funny thing was there was a policeman parked up the track only the day before, he was parked very close to an area I call "Tissue Point"...as for poisoning dogs...nah...that can really bite one on the arse.

there are fences of pig skins in central...by mcraes mine somewhere along the pigroot??? seen it from truck window...much better than a bra or shoe fence...looks like a brag wall,the locals poke skins out to show off they have had a bit of luck.
its not hard to find a tomo/underrunner to poke stuf in and the green wheelie bin is ok to put skins n guts in...duck feathers are even better.

Always wondered what the story was on this. See the hides on gates here and there and couldn't figure out why someone would bother aside from putting it out like a trophy or to tell people there are pigs in the area.

As a kid growing up in porirua(waitangirua)... we had a lands and survey block up behind our house..... several neighbors were always killing sheep in the back yard for a Xmas /new years hangi.....we all knew where they came from.... nobody blinked an eye.... and that was back in the 60,s..... not condoning it at all,but stock rustling is not a new thing.

When I worked as a Shepard/manager for Ken grey ,we reckon we lost 100 hoggets a year.... and very seldom caught anyone

Phoned a landholders tonight to get permission to cross his land to get to the hunting block. He amazed me when he thanked me for phoning him for the permission, as he said most thought it was their right to be on his land. He told me he gets a bit cranky when he finds people that he has no idea of on his land. We talked some and he wished me a successful trip. 10min max a DOC permit now legal.
Those in the original post put our hobby at risk. Not happy with that.

Good one for giving him a call......seems like a few don’t if you back it up with a few bottles of something to cement the relationship.

In my experience most land owners are reasonable if you approach then in the right manner.. If they say no its usually because someone has sissed them off.
