Anyone got a block booked for next year?
It’s not open for ballot yet.
Ok. Thought it opened this month? Is it later?
Ok. I just see they open Monday. My mistake.
Shhh don't tell everyone
Too late for that. Last year I had one in by 9:35 and missed out. Unfortunately I am away Monday and won't have an oppertunity to get an application in.
I will be on the computer doing my best to get one again after missing out last year
I think it is a stupid system to be fair. Why the hell "first in first served"!!!
I had organized a group of forum members and their sons last year. Three adults and three keen lads. (Party max 6)
Took me a minute to enter everyone's details, got the info in by 9.30.
Think the 'unsucessesful' email I got said all the blocks were filled by 9.15am or something like that.
Bloody ridiculous !!
Promotes solo hunting....ie only one set on info to imput !!

I got a block and I was entering details 10 minutes after it opened because I couldn’t find the right link on the web site.
Go figure.

If there are multiple hunters, you should all be entering, more chances. Enter as parties of 1 and add your mates later.

Exactly what your your not allowed to do. I will be contacting Doc Renwick and informing of them of this in the morning.
Got my application in, didn't help that electrician killed the power to the modem as I was filling it out so a mad scramble to hotspot my phone.
Yea its pretty hard to get a block
A better format would be " All applications in by a certain date, and then drawn as per the Wapiti ballot"
First in first served doesn't work for everyone
Yeah ballots are fair gives everyone the same chance then . How long do they usually take to let you know if you have a block ? Atleast with Canterbury there is plenty options of you miss out although it is busy that time of the year
What's Molesworth like in the summer? I've been in there for fishing trips before I was a hunter, but I'll be down in the mainland over Christmas and will need to get away from/with relatives.
Had a crack anyway, gotta be in to win i guess.[emoji41]
@Bucko I would say it will be pretty dry in there this summer. Has been closed before due to fire risk but not for a few years.

I put in an application for myself. See what happens
Last year I heard I had missed out the same day.
The year before when I went in with Shearer I heard a month after close I had been lucky.
I don't think they have a system I think they make it up to suit themselves each year.
May last year I watched them doing the prefeed drops from the top of Mt Isobel while up there as a timekeeper for the Isobel challenge
The bird is an Australasian Harrier and was tagged in August.
I've asked to have my first post deleted that has a few key words that can put the spotlight on my mate. he wants to stay anonymous with no dots that can be joined. His call, which is fair enough.
Marlborough NZDA would be interested in those pics. They commissioned a study on the last big bi-kill.
Does 1080 kill Hawkes or could that be brodi?
Right lads, I have removed a bunch of posts related to TimC's original post, I've tried to leave the relevant information.
Can I ask that you all please be mindful of what you post on here. There is enough mod work to be done around here without having to go through threads stripping out information that shouldn't have been posted whilst leaving enough information so the thread still makes sense.
Thanks
No joy for me jeepers you have to be quick !!
.......Thank you for your Molesworth ROAR hunting application. We were inundated with emails and have been processing and assigning blocks on a “first come, first served” basis. Even though your applications were received within the first five minutes unfortunately the blocks and time periods you selected were allocated before your place in the queue.
This year the first five blocks allocated in minutes were Yarra, Five Mile, Dillon, Half Moon and Chimney. The majority of blocks were allocated withīn the first 10 minutes of the application page going live.

Goodness. We applied for 4 blocks but haven't heard. Not holding much hope.
No luck here either. Shit, I don't know if I could have been any quicker .....
Email received from DOC
Kia ora,
Thank you for your Molesworth ROAR hunting application. We were inundated with emails and have been processing and assigning blocks on a “first come, first served” basis. Even though your application was received within the first ten minutes, unfortunately the blocks and time periods you selected were allocated before your place in the queue.
This year the first five blocks allocated in minutes were Yarra, Five Mile, Dillon, Half Moon and Chimney. The majority of blocks were allocated withīn the first 10 minutes of the application page going live.
All current applications have been processed resulting in all the blocks issued aside from two remaining in the Lizard for the 3rd and 5th period – email me if these are options you are interested in (again first in-first served).
We are aware our booking system is not infalable but we do our best to ensure it is as fair as possible. We will also be doing some monitoring this season in the Molesworth to ensure hunting parties are abiding by the rules of their permits.
Kind regards
Caroline Cornelius & Kirsten Booker

Also got the unsuccessful email. Oh well worth a shot.
Received unsuccessful email. It said over 250 applications.
Just got same email so a no for me as well
My application was for two people.
I got an email from them saying my application had been recieved. The time on that email is 9.32 !!
The only way to be any quicker would be to be a party of one !!
I would love to know the percentage of successful applicants who were exactly that ??

Seems to me the whole thing is completely biased towards those that are computer savvy, and can sit in front of a device and refresh the page time and time again.
My mate had his application in by 9.03, and missed out. The official word on his email reply was "Even though your application was received within the first 10 minutes, unfortunately the blocks and times selected were allocated before your place in the queue".
Now what sort of a fair and equitable system is this - never heard such a crock of shit in all my life
Sounds like they had the blocks sorted with in a few seconds, computer makes decision.
6 of us applied.
Me, Brian, Rod and our 3 nurses.
My guess is something like 95 percent of people apply for a select few blocks hence almost zero chance of getting one unfortunately.
I took the system up with DOC last year provided photos of the system error not allowing me to process the application. Good okd DOC replied with “thats the best system and bad luck there was some technical issues reported..bad luck”.
Roll on 2023 i sat there and submitted a application bang on 0930. Got to the next page saying application received and you will get a confirmation email. Nothing… nothing and nothing quick email to DOC. “We didn’t receive any application from you and they admit the system has failures… go figure had to think twice about my wording on my reply
When you compare it to how the other roar blocks in NZ are allocated it really is a bit of a joke.
I wonder if they would be open to change?
Anyone in the know on that ??

I think they should at least be open to considering a system change. A ballot would be a reasonable system.
I've been thinking today I might email NZDA and ask if they would consider asking DOC if they would change the application system for Molesworth Roar blocks.
