I did a horse back moose hunt in 2015. I did a lot of research and ended up in northern BC just on the Yukon border. If you book in the Yukon your will pay considerably more. On the BC border you still get the good size moose at better prices.
I used Jake Gunsen outfitter. Link below. The reason I chose him. Small outfitter, he guides himself with one other guide, has 2500 sq miles of territory ( pushes into new areas every year). He does boat hunts floating down the river but I chose 12 day fly in with float plane to remote log cabin camp, then on horse back, fly camping from the main camp.
I have hunted all around the world and this ranks as a life time experience.
The other thing I liked about this outfitter is he vetts prospective hunters. He’s not interested in over weight Americans wanting to shoot from the cabin door.
As a kiwi this is the real deal.

    That outfit looks awesome too.
Very similar to what I did with Fire Mountain Outfitters in the same area.
I should add that I wasn't the hunter on my trip.
Just got to tag along on a couple of hunts (Moose and Caribou) with my daughters who guide for Fire Mountain. (they know Jake and his outfit and reckon he's OK too). So I got to spend three weeks sitting on a horse in postcard type scenery looking for Moose and Caribou. And watching Grizzly Bears. A life long dream which finally came true.
Hopefully going to do it again this year.
