    Night vision for possuming

Just bought a night vision scope, hopefully to do multiple shooting types. Am finding it challenging shooting coons in thick trees, lrf very handy during the day. Bit pissed it's a step back from conventional scope and torch.
    Any tips be appreciated.

I use Thermal to locate and scope and torch ( green lens) to shoot, have found same problem with night vision, use only in open areas and paddocks.

Night vision rather than thermal for 'possums.
A third the price and 10 times as effective.

Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.

Personally in trees at night, I think day scope and torch trumps NVG setups. In the open NVG is perfectly effective and trumps day scope and torch by in large. Problem I find with NVG's is if its not a clear line of sight to your target, IR light reflects off scrub, trees, undergrowth etc... and sighting your target becomes an issue.

However, thermal is king in all circumstances at night. With coons you can use the combo to good effect, stalking in with a hand-held thermal and nil visible light. Then when in range using a white light with a pressure switch together with day scope to pop your target is effective.

Thermal hand held and thermal scope is king on all prey at night.

Digital night vision is often too high a magnification for shooting coons close up in pines. Its very hard to actually find them in the scope, and the pine needles give too much reflection.

But out in the open, after bunnies/hares/deer at a reasonable range, digital night vision excells, bang for buck.

Yep mate, exactly what i found last night, had a real battle actually seeing them, like I said bit pissed I've gone backwards from original set up. But have another 22 with old scope on, so will go back to that with a mounted torch.
